Know your rights. Protect your neighbors.

New York is — and always will be — a city for all immigrants.

I'm trying to purge as much AI as possible from my world (where I can). Do you have a recommendation for learning Spanish that isn't Duolingo? Please share it with me.

I'm digging out from the first significant snowfall of the year, and am reminded that cleared walkways are essential forms of access. Please shovel the full width of your sidewalk so folks using wheelchairs or white canes are able to navigate them. Also a reminder: FUCK ICE.

If Trump does go through with his threatened invasion of Venezuela without Congressional approval, that should absolutely be grounds for immediate impeachment proceedings.

We would need mass, popular mobilization calling for his removal from office. It has to be a red line.

It’s useful to think about things like this in numbers of tenure track professors.

$53M is 575 assistant professors. Or more than thirty percent of the total number of full-time faculty at LSU.

While the right lose their goddamn minds about a lone wolf doing something horrendous in DC today, let’s not forget that last week in the White House they all gushed over a genocidal, journalist murdering tyrant whose country financed 9/11.

The House will have been in session for fewer than 30 days between July 1-December 31 and just had a 53-day recess. He makes $223K/year plus benefits including 75% of all health expenses for his entire family. Affordable Care Act subsidies expire Dec 31st for everyone else’s healthcare coverage.

I really want to be thankful for @governor.ny.gov taking action to protect bodily autonomy by signing Shield Law 2.0, Hospital Transparency, and New York Health Information Privacy Act. Would you help make that happen by watching this video, sharing it, and following the call to action at the end?

Black women are down 297,000, but men’s gains have surged to +621,000. That’s a 324,000 widening of the gender gap in two months—a 34% jump. Since February, the swing between black women’s losses and men’s gains approaches 1 million jobs.

And if you’re born with a congenital condition which requires lifelong care, sorry if we can’t insure you. The healthy people need lower rates. I’m sure you understand.
Markwayne Mullin: "Reward people for being healthy. Think about this. Healthcare is the only industry that you're not rewarded for taking care of your responsibility. If you think about homeowners insurance, if you're within 500 feet of a fire hydrant, your insurance goes down."

What a loss. I learned so much from Alice Wong's work - about myself, about the world, about how to be a better human. Rest in power. May we carry your mantle forward with as much compassion, dignity, fearlessness, and eloquence.

Since the Democrats worked extra hard to hide who actually supported this, I think the No Kings/Resistance position should be to primary every Democrat unless they publicly call for Schumer's ouster this week

Either they go into total rebellion mode, which they won't, or the people will

This pretty much sums it up. It's hard to find any way to salvage hope for the future. The people spoke loudly and nobody in power cares. I'd say I hope every last one of them gets primaried, but it's hard to believe in elections at this point. @democrats.senate.gov betrayed us.
Americans listened to Senate Democrats promises to fight against Trump’s asinine actions and secure affordable healthcare & voters ensured Democrats swept the Elections last week. Tonight the @democrats.senate.gov f*cked us all and bowed down before the Orange Overlord and his goons. #Weak #Useless

The New York Times quickly sending out Douthat to argue that Mamdani’s victory doesn’t really matter is so predictable it borders on self-parody.

Remember, folks: Every time the Right wins an election, it’s an undeniable expression of the will of the people. If a lefty wins, it’s just a blip.

There’s no such thing as the “genuinely disabled”

Disability is dynamic

Some disabilities are invisible. Some change day to day

You won’t always know a person is disabled unless they tell you

It’s a minority group you can join at any time, not a moral failing.

Whenever people complain about the number of folks relying on food stamps, it is worth reminding them that SNAP is, by too large of a degree, a subsidy for corporations that refuse to pay a living wage and their political allies who reject public policy prescriptions to reduce income inequality.

What is the action that pushes news outlets to treat what is happening in the US w/ the urgency like 9/11, shifting to pretty much all fronts coverage as such? It's apparently not:
Disappearing people
Ordering the govt pay him $1/4B
Demolishing the White House
Removing all press corps from Pentagon

i think some decent people hold the idea that fascists need excuses to do evil, because it’s hard to wrap their heads around the cruelty otherwise.

the truth is, fascists have never needed excuses. they’ll opportunistically *take* an excuse if it appears, but they’ll just fabricate one otherwise.
