Intro post for pinning. I have a PhD in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. Worked for about a decade doing research and data analysis. Just about the time (last Trump term) my funding was cut, went into *severe* burnout. Found out it was autistic burnout 😀. 1/3
I mean, obviously.

A neat thing about birthright citizenship is how it tests whether a person cares at all about the Constitution. There's no argument against it, birthright citizenship is the unambitious text, the obvious intent of the drafters, and the undisputed way it was followed for the past 150+ years.
I continue to think that Matty coming out against birthright citizenship a few months ago should have been taken as a major warning sign that the group chats have already decided to surrender on this.

Working on some mitts for my mom for Christmas. I gave her a pair like these years ago and she wore them all the time until she lost one last spring. This is one of my favorite mitt patterns. Knits up quick and looks great for the effort. Pattern: My Cup Of Tea Mitts by Fluffy Fibers. 🧶

This is your occasional reminder that, if you like Neil Gaiman's stuff, but can't bring yourself to like it anymore for justifiable reasons, Tanith Lee is the author he is credibly accused of extensively cribbing from, and her work is on Audible, and AMAZING.

This was a very moss and frogs and Portishead and Sade kind of morning until we got close to the fire station and had to pull over for the fire engine and EMS to go by, which elicited shrieks and hollering. The calm never returned. We're just fancy primates after all. #SchoolBus

Been listening to David Byrne's new album and it's great and so autistic in the best ways. I mean, his music has always been autistic-coded, but it's more text than sub this time. She Explains Things To Me could be our anthem.

I switched to this and @bookshop.org for every book, ebook, and audiobook purchase where they have what I want - which is 99% of them -- and the apps are great, and I get to support a local bookstore. It's all win here, folks.
If you happen to be looking for an alternative audiobook listening platform, there are many out there, including us at Libro.fm 👋

We aim to build community in many ways, including by supporting independent bookshops with every purchase you make—versus tearing communities apart.

a load-bearing component of “the magic of Christmas” is the invisible domestic labor of moms

you are now realizing how much she was doing for you and instead of just thanking her you’ve decided it’s about the decline of civilization
Because you're an adult you fucking muppet. You gotta pay the magic forward.

We keep doing these pilot programs and are shocked, SHOCKED!, by the incredibly positive results each time. At what point can we just, ya know, stop with the pilots and make this policy already??? #ubi
An Oregon pilot program giving cash to homeless youths sees a staggering reduction in homelessness. The program gave participants $1,000 cash payments each month for two years, and at the end of the project's first phase, 91% of participants reported being in stable housing.

This looks great!
The goal of the cooperative card game Prosper with Dragons is to befriend 12 dragons while sharing resources with other players to fend off disasters together.

Here are some of those dragons. I love all the care and trust that goes into befriending them. ❤️🐉

Finished my mitts. Many stranded colorwork patterns only have one size, so I added border stripes on either side so they'd fit me. I do love a cephalopod. 🐙
Now I need to make myself a heavier pair of some sort for the really cold days coming.
The pattern is The Pact by Jac of Lattes and Llamas. 🧶

Blocking this hood I made for one of my bus driver pals. I made one of these for a different driver last year and she said it was the best thing I'd ever made for her. She wore it every day in the winter. I hope this one is as useful. The pattern is Hoodola by Laura Nelkin 🧶

This game has actual petri dishes in it. If you work on diatoms, a petri dish is your go-to visual reference for explaining what a diatom is. Which you have to do a lot. 🥲

Going to play Diatoms with my kids for the first time. I worked on diatoms for my MSc. (described a species even) so I'm going to try *really hard* to not be pedantic about it.

I was just telling my kids this is how I want to be buried: weighted down in the deep ocean so I can be a whole ecosystem for a time. I ordered 2, one for myself.
Whale fall pins are now back in stock, just in time for the holidays!! The perfect gift for deep sea lovers & marine biology fans 🐋🦀

I'm definitely ordering a couple copies of COLOR TASTE TEXTURE for holiday gift giving this year. I know a couple of kids who've been labeled as "picky eaters" (derogatory) whose families could use the resource.
I’m an Autistic classically trained chef and I wrote a food aversion acceptance cookbook and guide titled COLOR TASTE TEXTURE, that’s all about finding out what works for specific sensory needs and how to customize food for them. It’s useful for all ages, no cooking experience necessary.
Color Taste Texture by Matthew Broberg-Moffitt: 9780593538593 | PenguinRandomHouse.com: Books
An accessible family cookbook that offers solutions rather than tricks to empower the food-averse, autistic, and picky eater, with 46 recipes. This much-needed cookbook combines tips and techniques.....

I should probably embroider this on something because it's so true.
I mean, I irritate my friends sometimes, and they are the people who love me, I can entirely understand why people who don't, in fact, care about me would decide I'm too much to deal with
It's also humbling seeing that people have blocked me, and forcing myself to say, "that's okay".
