That's great! Well done!! 😁 It's always an amazing feeling when you can apply what you've learnt to a real thing.

Also a great way to track your progress: you can fairly accurately say you understand Dutch as well as an X year old, and see that number go up as you progress to harder books! 🙂

I keep learning about it and honestly, on the anti-AI side, I'm seeing a lot more hard numbers and graphs and articles with citations and such.

Meanwhile, the pro-AI side has snark and people repeating "BUT IT'S OBVIOUSLY INEVITABLE" with increasing volume, and... that's mostly it.

By 2037, Marvel has used up every well-known animal and bug for their superhero names, so we get...The Rise of Bee Killer Robber Fly!!

... On a related note, there's a really dark Spiderman story about a parasitic wasp themed supervillain now I think about it...

I'd rather read your writing than anything an AI could produce, even if it's supposedly "better". A book isn't just all the words in that order, it's all the words you didn't use, and all the words you thought about, and all the times you moved that sentence around to get it just right, and...

I love these two so much. They're so crammed full of personality, it feels like there's an entire novel's worth of backstory in this picture alone 🙂

Monday after a regular weekend:
Okay, time to get back to looking at the proxy URL sanitisation code, I need to figure out why it's returning null at line 427.

Monday after a three day weekend:
I think...I do some kind of...job? Does that sound right??
drrelling.dev
YES. Couldn't agree more (although I'm a rubbish painter so I'll go with "whittle" instead 😅).

Where is this quote from?
drrelling.dev
Again, this is all speculation, but we don't have much to go on either way. Under those circumstances I'm inclined to assume the worst, if only because they're the government and they can do a LOT of damage if they screw up (or worse).

Hopefully we'll get more concrete details soon!

Also true, but passports are an expensive luxury - they're about £100, so it's perfectly reasonable to not have one if you don't travel.

Having a digital ID card may be optional, but they can still insist on it for certain things and say "but it's free, so there's no issue with you getting one".
drrelling.dev
Can't have too many small acts of kindness! 🙂
drrelling.dev
There are, and it could address some glaring inequalities. Proving your identity seems to be a luxury right now, which is ridiculous.

However, this government has done very little to make people trust them, and the opportunities for abuse are obvious. Proposing this now is, at best, tone deaf.

'For clarity, it will not be a criminal offence to not hold a digital ID and police will not be able to demand to see a digital ID as part of a “stop and search."'

Another interesting little nugget. That's good but...I don't feel great about being reassured about that, y'know?

I didn't think when I started this little business that I'd be making not one but two tiny outhouses for clients, and yet here we are 🤣

If you too dream of owning your own whittled model of a ramshackle outdoor toilet, or indeed anything else I can make, why not get in touch at drrelling.etsy.com?

It's uncanny how accurately you captured what most ICE agents dream of looking like.
drrelling.dev
Okay, time to pack it up and switch off the internet. We've officially found the cutest one, all the rest will never be quite as good 🤣
drrelling.dev
Kind of why a good indie movie will stay with you forever, but all the Marvel movies I've watched show up in my memory as a single confused blur of punching and brightly coloured costumes 😅
drrelling.dev
Absolutely. When I'm experiencing a game, either as a listener or a player, I want YOUR game, not ChatGPT's. It might not be as polished as something spat out by an AI, but it's something a person made and every choice is important to them. Besides, it's more fun with the rough edges!

"A hiker blundered into an angry bear on the trail. She's singing about the beauty of nature but we've got to get her out of there before she loses her voice and... OH SHIT we have a CODE BLUE, I repeat, CODE BLUE - dozens of birds just landed on her shoulders and are lifting her into her sky!"
drrelling.dev
"We've got a bank robbery in progress on Main Street and it looks like the ringleader has turned it into an impromptu musical! Three officers got caught in the blast and are now powerless to stop singing along while dancing and stuffing money into bags!"
drrelling.dev
I feel like there's a great TV show about a world in which it's genuinely possible to start a song and dance routine in the street and have unwilling passersby get sucked into it.

It'd focus on a crack team of completely tone deaf operatives who specialise in breaking up such scenes.

I am so tired of hearing about how "great" AI is. I get it constantly at work, but as a software dev I've learned to tune it out. Now I'm getting it in my favourite hobby.

I listen to a lot of solo RPG podcasts for inspiration, and every one that has "discovered" AI has immediately gotten worse.
drrelling.dev
I took the survey. There's a question that says "Do you use AI?" I answered "no".

The next question is "what do you use AI for?" and you have to pick something to continue 😑

I went with "other" and wrote "is there a missing 'none of the above' option here, given the last question?"
drrelling.dev
"AI and tabletop roleplaying games - what happens when they meet?"

All the fun gets sucked out like someone opened the air lock door on the fun storage deck by mistake, in my experience.
