If you want to know more, you can also look at the third panel of our last-year blood paper (Pubmed: PMID: 38900972) when we generated mouse models. That figure focused on the disease expression in XLSA (and XLPP) female mice.

When we think about X-linked disease, we usually think about males and how the disease affect them. The "classical" narrative is that females are carriers (at risk of transmitting the disease), sometimes affected when X-inactivation is at play.

With a grant, as a researcher, you're asking for $$$ to pay for saying your salary, a technician salary, your reagents & for example, your DNA sequencing costs.

This money doesn't cover having a lab, with electricity and heat, for someone helping you with the budget, for building maintenance,...

It's a good discussion to have to have about research & costs. It's okey to ask if some money is well allocated. It's not OK to say to people that Monday, their support will be partially off.
Once again, we need those bills, a lab & support people paid to be able to conduct research.

Do you realize that this hypothetical MD would not be affected as they do not have a grant in your example.
The MD & PhD, who will be affected, are the ones conducting research because the place that host them will suddenly have an empty purse? The admin working with them. Their students. Etc

If you're a cook. A good one. And I give you a grant to buy an oven & all your groceries. And I pay your rent. Can you cook for people?
No. You need a place. You need gaz. You need a cleaning person who helps you, a waiter to organize your restaurant.
Scientists are teammates. They need the team

Scientists at the CDC may be in a difficult position, but scientists in other institutions & national societies definitely should speak and be loud!
February 2, 2025 at 2:57 PM
Should we they do as in Instagram and other social network: preg*ant people, transg*nder, etc?
I am both sad for people who worked hard that were about to publish & those that were accumulating data they won't be able to share anymore! I think it's time the national societies speak!

That happened a year for a ASH conference in Atlanta, Georgia. The first planes from Boston did it before a snow storm while the 2nd wave had to be reschedule :<
Good luck!
