Fairmount Park in Philadelphia has tremendous potential to be a world class park like it once was, but it's held back by far too many high speed roads and extremely deteriorated paths for people walking and biking.
Philadelphia CP Jay Young refuses to answer questions about why he is holding up a bike lane around City Hall that 1400 people signed a petition for (and which no one opposes). The arrogance is impressive. @dpearsonphl.bsky.social@meirrinde.bsky.social
I know roundabouts are safer, but the ones in the park have ZERO thought for cyclists. Especially on Concourse they force me to merge into high speed traffic. Traffic definitely slows, but not that much.
City Hall: Experts at King’s College London estimated that, from when the Mayor came into office in 2016, without additional action it would take 193 years for London to meet legal limits. It has been achieved in nine years.
Honestly, I am good with either, but whatever remains open needs to be speed calmed and narrowed. The little roundabouts are cute and helpful a bit, but the rest of the road is still a death trap.
In 2024, 7,100 pedestrians were killed on the road, and in recent years, more than 1,000 cyclists have been hit and killed annually. Safety experts explain how bikers and walkers can stay safe.
