#CristmasCarol I often debate who my favorite Scrooge might be. Alstair Sim is high on the list, as is Albert Finney. I believe Sim was more emotive and gave a better crazed lunatic vibe when waking on Christmas morning. But I debate whether crazy over awakened is contrary to the story. 1/4

A somewhat shorter -- though not sweeter -- GIFTS FOR WRITERS this year, over at the blog.
Gifts For Writers, 2026
Every year I (try to) do a GIFTS FOR WRITERS post, which is to say, a post speaking not to the writers per se but to those fortunate (or unfortunate) souls that have writers in their lives. Writers…

Christmas Build-up with #lego: Day 8 - A Flying Squirrel (In all honesty, I'm not sure what it is, but he's giving me vibes of Rocky from the Bullwinkle show)

I know I gush a bit too much about the 1970 Albert Finney "Scrooge" #ChriatmasCarol but we can't overlook Bob Cratchit (David Collings). He has a beautiful voice, but he's also so emotive, he completely embodies the Cratchit that should be in every version. He's excellent. Unsung hero.

The 2020 (Simon Beale) version of #ChristmasCarol is a work of art. I don't expect all will love it. But it's a beautiful surreal rendition filled with dancers and animated cutscenes. It's not at all like the norm. I love it for the artistic vision. Maybe you will as well.

#ChristmasCarol The 1999 Christmas Carol with Patrick Stewart is an underappreciated gem. It doesn't add much to the traditional narrative, but it does lean in more on how the world celebrates. I like the version for the production quality, which is higher than most, despite being made for TV. 1/2

#ChristmasCarol Revisiting the '51 Alstair Sim Christmas Carol. Another great scene this version added: Fezziwig watches as his sign is removed from his building, symbolizing that he was one of the first Scrooge-Marley victims. Marley points him out, Scrooge looks to approach, but stops short... 1/4

#ChristmasCarol 1954 Christmas Carol with Fredric March was made for TV. So it is a truncated version, only about 50 minutes. Despite that, it's a good watch and his all the key points. It's not very faithful. But it is my favorite Fred (Ray Middleton) for his goading performance. 1/

#ChristmasCarol - I have mixed feelings about the 1984 Christmas Carol with George C. Scott. It is among the more realistic representations of the era. And Scott is a great Scrooge. Many tout how faithful it is to the book. But in my opinion, that's what makes it uninteresting. Thread... 1/4

This sounds like a BS rule to me. The final should be played in Vancouver, the rightful higher seed.

#ChristmasCarol A beautiful detail of the "Scrooge" musical (1970) is the Christmas Eve shipping spree with Cratchet and his kids. There is quite the juxtaposition of wealthy shoppers vs Cratchet buying from street vendors. This might be a longer thread... It's important stuff 1/5

Today's #ChristmasCarol notes: Muppet Christmas Carol (1992). It was the first feature length Muppet movie directed by Brian Henson, and he filled his father's shoes brilliantly. This is among the best adaptations, and possibly the only comedy. Gonzo and Rizzo narrating, breaking fourth wall 1/2

I can get onboard with this.

The best part of Thanksgiving is the Pie. I'm willing to jettison the rest for all pie, all day.

Happy Piesgiving!
WHAT IF

THERE WAS *ONLY* PIE

A DAY OF PIE

BREAKFAST PIE

SAVORY PIE

SWEET PIE

SOME SORT OF ALCOHOLIC DRINKABLE PIE

PIESGIVING WE WOULD CALL IT AND THE WORLD WOULD THANK US IN PRAYER AND SONG AND IDEALLY PIE
WELCOME TO THE DAY OF MANY CALORIES

YOU SHALL CONSUME

YOU SHALL INGEST

YOU SHALL HEAVE YOUR SWOLLEN BODY ONTO THE COUCH MOANING AS YOU DO SO

BUT WAIT

THERE'S STILL PIE

'51 Christmas Carol with Alstair Sim: Fantastic acting, cinematography better than most. But the scene that steals it is when you hear Fan ask Ebenezer to take care of Fred. He doesn't hear it until Ghost of Christmas Past shows him.

#ChristmasCarol thought for tonight: I love the 2019 FX mini-series Christmas Carol (with Guy Piece) for a few very dark reasons. 1) Scrooge has an affair with Lady Cratchet - not at all canon, but adds a very interesting dynamic. 2) Andy Serkis, highly underrated when not in CG, and... 1/2
