Deepseek and ChatGPT - don’t be fooled. I’ve been using them back to back. DS is still hallucinating frequently and seems to be on par with about ChatGPt3 right now. Given time, and the cost difference, though, it could show us a new direction.

Siri will now be a hybrid search engine. I know some would argue, but with access to ChatGPT 4o and through that, Bing, I’m stating it: this is how Agents emerge. Apple is about to change consumer behavior. This is a glimpse at our new world of search. Coming this Fall.

Is everyone calm? AI Overview dropped and I heard SEOs exploded about “content theft” and other topics du jour. Are people keyed up because of theft, or threat? As in: my job is harder, is this making my work irrelevant? (Hint: it’s not.) Curious to hear people’s thoughts. 🙏

Is Google turning off SGE the end of December? I was in Labs this morning and found this note about SGE, and unless I’m misunderstanding (entirely possible), it appears to indicate the SGE experiment ends this month? Are we full-Gemini in January?

Well this is a useless update. Now, instead of seeing a preview of the incoming email, I just see a pointless message designed to get me to instantly go into Gmail. Good for Google, useless for me. Does the whole “make useful experiences” not apply to their own experiences?

What if…all the focus the engines have on user experience & helpful content & intent…has been telling us that’s what will matter most if they open up subscription models to users for access to personalized AI-agents? No SERPs up front, just answers.

Describe for me what you think the world of CONSUMER information retrieval will look like in 10 years. 20 years. If the last 20 has been a query box and a SERP, where are we 20 years in the future? How are we getting answers to our questions?

Has anyone heard of examples of businesses using gen-AI to create beautified images of their storefronts? Cleaning up, focusing on doorways, editing out things/other buildings, etc. We can’t be far from this as a service…

I’ve been noticing this lately. Bing seems to want to send me to websites, Google just answers my question. This was done on my mobile using each app. Google triggered an SGE for me.

I’m going to say that today’s Google I/O event marks a turning point for digital marketing. In fact, we shouldn’t call what they serve a SERP anymore. It’s not really a page, depending on how you see the results. It’s an experience. It’s a SERE. Threaded across platforms.
