Duncan Batey
@duncanbatey.bsky.social
is allegedly a gracefully ageing rocker whose life was demolished in a freak meditation accident back when he was a computer scientist

but also very definitely a singer-songwriter and t'ai-chi enthusiast based in Glastonbury, UK

I'd already encountered Astérix in English, but then when we moved to France 1980-81 I found out how much better it is in French! More sophisticated jokes. Talon... isn't ringing any bells, what's that?

Ooh err, Vicar.

PS the two I'm not sure about are number9dream and Black Swan Green - I enjoyed both of them, and there are definitely links in to the other books, but they don't on the face of it seem to be part of the bigger story... but I could be wrong.

From my bookshelf:

The key ones are... Ghostwritten, Cloud Atlas, The Thousand Autumns of Jacob De Zoet, Slade House, and Utopia Avenue. There are others that seem more tangential - though still very good - then again it wouldn't surprise me if books yet to come will cause me to see them in a new light.

😂 Great gif - knock yourself out!

I concur. What I didn't realise at the time - but maybe you already know - is that all of his books so far (well, very nearly) are all part of a larger story, though not in any clearly linear sense. I won't say any more because Spoilers 👀
