I used to ride 5:30 to 7pm, now I ride at noon. No kids makes a huge difference...esp when I was nervous about arena traffic.

But remember how long I have been doing this- and how bad it used to look! A year ago I was leaning back during the canter, if I could even get the horse to move that fast. And oh, the saddle sores. It was made worse by the time slot being After School so the arena was filled with kids riding.

Horsegirl Monday & Tuesday: More of the same, but my lesson featured a fill-in trainer. She put me thru my paces and said I ride well, and I did not lean as much during trot circles. The mare was raring to go, so I had to Woah her down- not her usual m.o. One day I will full gallop. #horses.

Horsegirl Saturday & Sunday: This weekend was the big Gala at Volunteer Job and I worked a LOT. I had to nap both afternoons, after getting up so early and then the big fundraiser was a dinner event...and this morning was cleanup. The regular employees were all wearing dark sunglasses today. #horses

Where I live in California there are horses all around me, I just figured most places were like this. But the entire 6 years I lived in San Antonio I never saw one horse stable, and that was Texas.

Horsegirl Thoughts: The fantasy is to live on a ranch someday, at the base of the Rockies. If this never manifests, I at least have yearly Colorado trips to tide me over. Basically recreate the happiest years of my childhood. Western North America has some of the most epic scenery on earth. #dreamon

But my seat is better, my hips are relaxed, I can move with the canter SO much better than before. No tension, just ride that horse. I need to sit square and not lean forward when I get excited, which I never notice until the trainer tells me. But it's a huge improvement.

The flies are still bad but the mare is growing her winter coat. No brattiness anymore, she obeys most of the time- I just need to perfect my balance when I ask for the lope so she won't start off on the wrong foot. To change leads I am getting the timing down...it's all timing in the trot. Tricky.

Horsegirl Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday: I worked like a mule at Volunteer Job two days straight and then rode the thoroughbred at Fancy Pants Stable today. Trotting circles w/o stirrups, cantering w/ lead changes right & left, got praised with "beautiful!" by the trainer...I am smiling. #horses

Horsegirl Saturday: Buck was in a weird mood and we did the lesson left-handed, but the weather was fantastic and I learned you have to free up your dominant hand for a cavalry saber or a rope- which now seems obvious. Still, I prefer two handed reining for the symmetry. #backonthehorse
