7) there is something deeply amoral and sick about a society that tells its citizens that they have to work harder or starve and be homeless and then starve them and take their homes when they happen to get sick and can no longer work.

Several cans of worms here: 1) Innovation doesn't require ungodly sums of money that mostly wind up in the hands of passive investors and superfluous administrators; 2) the productivity gains from timely, inexpensive care would more than pay for its cost;

We should at least consider the possibility that some social spending can at least partially pay for itself. I've been in NYC over 30 years, and the number 1 reason people left is the cost of raising children. What if they had stayed?
