The Nobel for Literature goes to ... Hungarian author László Krasznahorkai, 'for his compelling and visionary oeuvre that, in the midst of apocalyptic terror, reaffirms the power of art.'

You might like to try 'A Mountain to the North, A Lake to The South, Paths to the West, A River to the East'.

Our newest book has just arrived into the office, and it's a whopper! The wonderful 'At the Rising of the Moon', by Marc Mulholland, has landed, with a bang.

This has been quite the week for good lives, sadly passed. We had the pleasure of dealing in small ways over the years with Martin Mansergh. His contribution to peace in Ireland is well established, but it's worth mentioning how pleasant he was, how politeness radiated from him. He will be missed.

Very sorry to hear of the passing of Jilly Cooper. We spent some time in publishing in the Cotswolds where every second person either was or believed themselves to be a character from her novels. And it made their lives all the more exciting for it.

For the first half of 2025, Bord Gáis Energy announced a €39 million profit, a slight decrease from the €50 million profit in the first half of 2024. Which they don't, presumably, regret.

As we move into the colder months, Bord Gais Energy have announced an electricity prise rise of 13.5%, citing 'a continued increases in network charges, the higher cost of doing business and the impact of wholesale energy market pricing ...' which they 'regret'.

The fake Sam Blake books are Obsidian Heart, another one about fairy romance / romantasy in London and, amusingly, a book on AI for small businesses.

Our pal Vanessa O'Loughlin, of writing.ie and the chair of the Society of Authors, was in touch. She's a bestselling fiction author under the name Sam Blake. But 'someone' is fake-writing new books under her name, using her author bio, etc. The books are AI generated, and there's 3 of them. Nuts!

Happy St Swithin's Day, everyone. Particularly the friends of St Swithin. He would be 1,162 this month. A good age.

Congratulations and welcome to all the new Irish citizens who are joining our ranks this week in Killarney. If you ever have the privilege of attending one of these ceremonies, take it with both hands. Incredibly moving and wonderfully done by all involved, from the State to the Gleneagles staff.
