stuff can totally be both comedic and high minded and when it misses the mark that can then make it comedic and pretentious

but EEAAO is like…there’s nothing like, “highbrow“ about the earnest premise or story. like…was she just not expecting it to be scifi or something? i just don’t understand

I only recently found out about there being two versions of the novel that change some things to be more palatable or respectable, did you know about that? Maybe I knew in the past but forgot, cuz I have liked this book so much for such a long time that I can’t believe I didn’t know this…

That’s so silly.
Riko even inherited her cooking ability *from her father*, which is a neat detail…
I really respect Tsukushi’s ability to break from gender stereotypes. The variety of the female cast in MiA, from little girls to giants to meal old ladies to big fat brawlers, is awesome.

i don’t even have an issue with this website, but that article really bums me out. The series did a great job compassionately establishing Mitty’s value and personhood even as her loved one felt she must be killed to end her suffering and follow her wishes (theme that reappears in s2).

yeah
it really bugged me how the article overlooks the actual reasons Nanachi feels justified in this. that being a) a correct assessment that if they die she’ll suffer alone forever b) honoring Mitty’s own request

was it that one about how killing Mitty was ableist

The third one was completely important…
Didn’t you wonder why they were on the sixth layer now after leaving the fourth, why Riko had her own white whistle now, and what happened to Reg’s arm?

Being mistaken due to a lack of information and then getting corrected by other people is not a “red herring”. That means a misleading or false clue in a mystery novel.

I’m going to stop replying now.

also, if you yourself are from America, England, or another western country, you can have a better time by keeping in mind English is spoken by billions in hundreds of countries (like how OP is Thai) so phrasing that may seem unusual to you may still be what (fluent!) speakers from other regions use
