Slow reading month with all that holiday socializing last week, but finally made it through all my overdue library books, so there’s that to celebrate!

Rebecca Ross creates the most interesting worlds and this was packed with intriguing ideas and characters, both mortal and gods. Great story telling 🖤

I still remember taking a drive with a friend to listen to a new band he had discovered—do kids still do that or do they just share music via text?

By the time we got to “Waterfall” I was hooked. What a killer debut.

Switching things up with some historical fiction. This was an excellent read about a group of “housewives” in the early 1960s who form a book club to read “The Feminine Mystique” and the unexpected ways their lives change over a year. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #BookSky #ListeningIsReadingToo

I voted today and also finished this modern take on Jane Eyre that had a few surprises, but I knew had to end with a fire. Worth a read if you like suspense and updated Bronte.

No one does speculative gothic fiction like Isabel Cañas. I love how her books are so entrenched in specific periods of Mexican history and also so cinematic. This one was no exception. Though I still think Vampires of El Norte is my favorite. Give them all a read.

“You worry too much
You make yourself sad
You can't change fate
But don't feel so bad
Enjoy it while you can
It's just like the weather
So quit complaining brother
No one lives forever”

God I love Oingo Boingo 🖤💀

I Who Have Never Known Men
by Jacqueline Harpman
Intriguing first person dystopian story if you are looking for a real downer (which I was). If you want to read this, the less you know, the better.
Also, support public libraries, because knowledge is power.

I enjoyed this haunted house read from Rachel Harrison whose books are more spooky than scary. However, I was taken by the mental health storyline of how the outside world/family perceives someone who believes their house is haunted. #BookSky

I’ve seen a lot of discussion lately about what is “appropriate” in these difficult political times. A colleague even asked me if it was okay to be happy recently. I always have to respond that if we are past joy, then what are we fighting for?

Live music really does feed the soul and Wolf Alice did not disappoint. The Fox Theater is absolutely gorgeous and I love a real marquee. I don’t know why I have never seen a show here before, but glad it is on my radar now!

My 120th book of the year- a unique take on vampires that focuses on themes of self discovery on loneliness. I really enjoyed the structure and simplicity of the storytelling.

The premise of Nikki Erlick’s books are always intriguing to me. In this case it’s the story of multiple people whose paths cross due to a medical treatment where you sleep away your grief. Still thinking about that after finishing this earlier this month.

Magical realism, sisterhood, a bit of a love story, and of course choking an abusive man with plants using only your mind. Not a bad read, but I didn’t love the narrator.

“Know your rights
All three of them!
Number one!
You have the right not to be killed
Murder is a CRIME!
Unless it was done
by a policeman
or an aristocrat
And Number two
You have the right to food money
Providing of course
You don't mind a little
