Here's another native plant that pops up in scattered spots around my property each Spring, amongst the weeds: a type of cluster lily called brodiaea elegans. 🌱

I am featured this month in Gold Country Artists Gallery in Placerville, CA. I don't often post about my photography but here are some of my images, or visit www.SierraLunaPhoto.com

In Jan 2020 I attended a conference in Seattle, and got very ill for about 2 months. Probably covid, but we can't know.

This week I learned that a colleague also got sick at that conference, & simply never got better. She developed long covid and a host of problems including hydroencephalitis, 1/6

Pic of a yellow wildflower that pops up in scattered spots across my property every Spring. It's a calochortus monophyllus, and they are native to California, and in fact *only* grow in the western foothills according to calflora. 🌱

I was weeding in my yard and startled this itty bitty fren. I snapped his close-up pic and then left him alone. I believe it's a Sierran treefrog; I enjoy their wonderful chorus in the evenings. Adorable! 🐸

Very short video of the protest

I attend another protest in my conservative little town of Placerville, California for May Day. Pretty good turnout! We will continue to unite to protect due process, the Constitution, free speech, and human rights.

The buds open up almost immediately when picked. One of my favorites is the peach one, but I can't remember the name, perhaps Desirée? It starts off peach and then turns pink, sometimes within hours, as seen in the last photo. Amazing fragrance. 🌱 🌹💐

More of my rosebushes have burst into bloom, including some more fragrant ones and some old garden heirloom varieties 🌱 🌹💐

More garden snapshots: an erigeron bloom, a giant patch of oregano, some of my raised beds ready for planting, and a random metal yard art butterfly in a patch of blooming alyssum

After doing a pop-up protest in my small red town for 2 hours, I spent the rest of the day weeding, clearing invasive blackberry vines, & prepping my raised garden beds. Snapshots: native silver bush lupine, a bee on my rosemary, blueberry blossoms, strawberry blossoms 🍓 🐝🌼 🌱

About 25 of us in Placerville, California today for a pop-up protest (organized last night). Lots of support from those driving by, even here. A couple middle fingers, too. One angry man w/ a Deus Vult tattoo walked up, yelled, bullied, and waved his giant drumpf flag, but we weren't deterred

One of my calendula plants. I grew some from seed a couple years ago as companion plants in my veggie garden, and they've just stayed. I ignore them all winter, and they burst into bloom in Spring, offering cheer before I even get my raised beds prepped for planting. 🌱 🌼

My sign for tomorrow, front and back. I'm not normally one for nationalistic displays, but I think we need to reclaim symbols like our flag from the MAGA crowd. I'll be at the rally/protest in Sacramento, California. Which city will you be protesting in?

Oh nooo! I made a rookie mistake in my garden! 😂 My tried-and-true garden label marker died in the middle of doing some seed planting in my veggie garden, so I used the off-brand marker that came free w/ other supplies, thinking it would be fine. Then it rained. 🌱 1/2

I'll be protesting in my state capitol (Sacramento) on April 5th, will you? Those who can go to D.C., should, but there are events in every state. You can find events (not just protests) near you by going to mobilize.us

Hands off our democracy!

This year I have the most miner's lettuce (claytonia perfoliata) popping up in my yard that I've seen in the 18 years I've lived here, and I love it! A tasty native plant, and pretty. I'm going to try to harvest some of the seeds and spread them around even more ❤️ 🌱

Since it apparently needs to be said: I'm with Canada. If it came down to it, I'd fight on the side of Canada before I'd ever let our government try to take any part of their sovereign territory. Crazy that this is even a thing! Canadian friends, please hold strong & do what you must. #elbowsup

I did a little yard clean-up and "battening down the hatches" before this afternoon's storm rolled in. I saw the first bumblebee of the season on my rosemary (a yellow-faced bumblebee ?), and I picked bunches of flowers, and some chard and herbs. 🌱 💦 💐

My work helping Ivy get comfortable wearing a cone has paid off - a little too much! It doesn't faze her at all & she zooms around, whacking the crap out of it. 😂 It keeps breaking & I resorted to duct tape (I also bought a spare). Her hot spot is nearly healed, thank goodness.

I will be attending a democracy rally Tue Mar 4th 5:30pm pacific in my small & largely trumpian town Placerville, California. League of Women Voters sponsoring Light for Democracy events across the country. Check link for this & other events in your area. Screenshot of my local one www.mobilize.us

Lots of weeds popping up, but also spring bulbs: crocus, muscari, daffodils ❤️ My yard is not a highly manicured place, and is different every year. Even my vegetable garden in summer is a bit of a rioutous place, no neat rows or polite plants, but instead all growing w/abandon, & happy pollinators 🌱
