So, hello everyone. I want to post here frequently about my advances of my quantitative-finance portfolio, text book problems I find nice, and my personal opinions of current events.

About me: I like #R, I worked at a bank selling FX derivatives, and I’m currently in a quant-finance diploma.

Negative bias of the economy isn't gen Z's exclusive. I see a couple of reasons people are this biased:
- People are naturally more pessimistic
- Is easy to see everything worst off, when you are worst off
- Money ≠ Quality of life. Compare Calgary, CA. to hell on earth, San Antonio Texas

Europe’s position on trade is frustrating.
If the EU opts for free trade (Mercosur deal), it lowers prices, and everyone is better off on the long term, but it infuriates uncompetitive farmers.
If the EU opts for protectionism (US&China trade war), makes everyone worse off, and farmers lose revenue

Went to RS to see the article, and their articles support Russian and Chinese talking points.

What a surprise. 😒

The difference between the Russian evacuation of Syria and the U.S evacuation of Afghanistan?

There are no crowds of thousands of Syrians trying to get to Russia.

One of the biggest mistakes made in recent European history was forgiving the communists in 1989, instead of putting communist tyranny on trial. It allowed old institutions to continue, and the ideology to whitewash its crimes. I hope the Syrians don't make the same mistake.

I believe that places that require their participants to help clean and maintain the space, makes the best communities and people. Work to care for others teaches civics.

Being active monitors on Bluesky must be a defining characteristic of the platform.
IQuick Thread: I really love people who work to take care of the spaces we share online. Because Bluesky is less centralized, more of that work falls to us.

As in all things…look for the helpers.

Fortunately, smoking cigarettes or vapes never appealed to me. I tried many times to smoke, but never felt good doing.

I understand they are addicts and is hard to quit, but they taste so bad that there shouldn’t be so many smokers!

Makes more sense being addicted to chocolate following that logic

What are the main problems of the Anti-Western coalition?

1. There is hardly a uniting identity beyond their hate for liberal values.

2. Fossil fuels are their primary economic activity (China being an exception). So they unintentionally compete with each other to sell their energy to… the West.

The "establishment", are the liberal institutions that protect democracy, the rule of law, checks and balances of power, and everyone's opportunity to change their economic circumstances.

These people hate liberals and liberal values.

The horseshoe theory is not rigorous, but is hard to deny.
yes yes we all know what he means but always funny when people use the word “establishment” in a way that excludes the last 8 years of Republican Party leadership, a dozen billionaires including the richest man in human history, Fox News, etc

I’m sure he is acting this populist character. I’ve seeing him talk about economic theory so articulately that I just can’t believe he is that childish extremist.

Moderate and sober politicians lose popular support at the very first challenge. While populists enjoy a bias of judgment from voters.

I remember when Ukraine blew up the Kerch Bridge, Hasan Piker and Kyle Kulinski condemned Ukraine and called it a "terrorist attack". Every single step of this war for the last 2 years, these people took the side of russia. And now they increasingly deny it.
Not only do they blame NATO "aggression" they just end up parroting all of Russia's talking points because their foreign policy amounts to 'Merica bad.

People who are against migration diverge every point to their bennefit with no logic:

If more migrants work in high paying jobs:
- "They are taking the best opportunities from the locals"

If more migrants work in low paying jobs:
- "They are not sending their best"
