I think you are right. And I am 100% convinced that the creators and operators will be completely incapable of understanding why that is a bad thing. Or understanding that they should be in any way held responsible.

It seems that giving a group of people that have no idea what education is for huge amounts of money, no accountability, and a bunch of power…may not have been a smart move.

Somebody knows that they can go to the government to get bailed out. Which is what many Silicon Valley folks do when things go south. All while trumpeting how independent, brilliant and self-sufficient they are.

Recently, I’ve been getting a bunch of “important emails” from “Maximus Cox”.

I think the GWOT was just a continuation of a trend begun during the Cold War. We’ve basically given the president the power to kill anyone, anywhere, for any reason, without question. Which may have been a mistake. Congress has abandoned its war powers, and deserves most of the blame. IMO.

This is why I have two black cats. Much good fortune!

I don’t know which part of me is irritated more by this - the misreading of Tolkien, or the sheer vacuous stupidity of the parallel to current events.

Another fine example: quoting people is now considered a hostile act. Which is...not good,.

Hah! Nope. If we could do that, we’d have a lot fewer problems to worry about. Or at least, very different ones. K Type 1 is a long way off.

Seriously, dust is about the only thing I can think of that might be noticeable. Maybe we could get some kind of halo/ring going? That’d be cool!

Interesting stuff, and worth investigating. But probably not worth worrying too much about. There’s a lot more pressing stuff. Including impacts of the space industry more directly. (A physics nerd’s take, who spent way too much time modeling interplanetary dust a long time ago.) 4/4

An interesting analysis would be the _kind_ of dust, and what atmospheric entry would do to it. It’s silica dust, mostly, if I recall correctly. “Moon cough” was a thing, and may have similar problems as asbestos. But I suspect atmospheric heating would reduce the health impact. 3/

There’s a surprising amount of interplanetary dust out there, which transfers material constantly between planets. On the order of tons yearly. It’d take a pretty detailed analysis to figure out how much lunar rocket dust would get here, but I’d guess small compared to the general flow. 2/

I think the indirect effects of lunar activities on earth would be pretty limited - dust kicked up would stay around a while, but not much would reach escape velocity and end up in our air. Far more would be kicked up getting to and from the moon, where dust could reach escape velocity. 1/x

Only a fool would posit something other than the luminiferous ether to explain the following phenomena…er…I mean dark matter. Dark matter!

Ooooh. I’m not sure if _I’m_ ready to expose her to Corman. Or me for that matter.

Though, she’d probably appreciate Rocky Horror. Do they let 12 year olds in to showings?

Speaking as a guy whose wife makes considerably more than him, I can state for the record - it is freaking awesome.

There is the nagging terror that she will someday realize what a horrible mistake she made…but it’s been 17 years, so I figure I can relax a bit.
