Law professor. Personal account, personal views only. Vonnegut's rule: you've got to be kind.
by contrast, I bought cell phone jeans, and this weekend I've "ordered" more DoorDash than I can consumed in ten lifetimes

Yup. I'm a diehard Wolverines fan, but it's less that I want the Buckeyes to lose than I want the Hoosiers to keep this season special.

My feeling--while respecting diff't choices others may make--is that the limited capacity to make neutral decisions about what protests warrant excusing students (and constraints on what they feel comfortable even asking about) is enough to avoid it all, leaving them to decide what warrants a miss.

For leadership that likely has little enthusiasm for Foucault, there's real interest in how to discipline and punish.

Waiting to hear more is almost always the strategy. In the abstract, I'd agree that one has to be evenhanded, if one decides for some reason to start officially excusing students for such things. But also: suspending or firing for such a mistake (with press releases too) would seem ridiculous.

Also I daresay Santa and those reindeer may be the most alarming disease vectors ever conceived, absolute menaces

Sounds to me like something better done by the states. Are they liberating the elves and reindeer? Mrs. Claus?

I enjoy what Casablanca ranks behind. Maybe Hindenburg: A Big Bang/Casablanca Mystery.

I think you overstate their options.
What is a shipwrecked survivor supposed to do to show they are not engaged in active combat activity?

Why, drown, of course.

Clinging to flotsam might look innocent, but it could also be paddling drugs toward the mainland.
This really lays bare how absurd the manufactured war theory is:

A shipwrecked survivor of a Hellfire missile strike on his small burning vessel is supposed to do... what, exactly, to show he is not "in the fight"?

When there is no war, applying the law of war is an exercise in absurdity.
