An awareness that for some humans sexuality and love don't carry the same priority is however very important. Only with that knowledge can one approach different needs appropriately and with consideration.

Though one generally knows that asexuality and aromanticisim appear regularly, there is little research, and they are unknown in large parts of the population. The theme is rarely talked about because it doesn't really fit into the media broadcast image of romantic love relationships.

Asexual and aromantic people often are confronted with prejudices that proclaim sickness or trauma as causes for the missing desires. Nothing however hints at this scientifically.

There are also humans who are drawn very little or not at all towards others (Aromantic). They also have a spectrum regarding how they can imagine attraction and how they want it. Asexuality and Aromantic can exist individually from one another, but can appear together.

It's just as likely that someone rarely, or not out of their own initiative, hankers for sexual interactions. This broad spectrum of asexuality is symbolized by the grey stripe on the asexuality flag.

Some humans do in fact long for tenderness and proximity, but don't wish for sexual interactions with other humans. Many live out their sexual needs through self gratification. Other can imagine sex with particularly close people, to whom they have build strong trust.
