At the sound of that voice, the teenage mercenary was unfazed. Not the first talking animal he encountered, and not likely to be the last.
"I got a few of those," Zell quipped modestly as he squatted low, "Could say the same for you, though. Not every day somebody meets a talking cat."

Heading into the alley, it had seemed that Zell lost track of the cat. Among all the trash discarded there, the little creature was out of sight. He could hear it, but couldn't see it.
A swift motion of his hand and he cast a magic spell -- Float -- to lift a sack of garbage into midair briefly.

Hm, served her right. She was looking for entertainment herself—could he keep up?
Her paw’s steps picked up speed as she turned right into an alleyway, disappearing out of line, hiding behind one of the many sacks of garbage, throwaways and containers stacked there.
But an audibly purr remained.
