I gotta go slow with this stuff - the old bastard just got so infuriated at the hoodlum's refusal to take off his backwards cap in a fancy restaurant that this happened. I might OD if I'm not careful

So after noticing Comics Kingdom had a two month free trial, I signed up purely to read this era of Mary Worth - starts in 1998, and though it's Sundays only for most of the year, it starts off right - with an old tightass righteously bullying his 90s slacker grandson. Oh yeah, that's the stuff

There's definitely something to this, but I think another issue is that white people in particular often do not seem to recognize that even good jokes cannot generally be shifted from one medium/context to another - surely if this joke was funny here, it'll be funny there?

- The funny thing is that that is indeed what Crumb in the 60s/70s is trying to do and failing miserably at - in fact, attempting to do that while also honoring the brain-vomiting-up-repetitious bit is what makes it so bad. Couching the same thing in therapy speak would only make it worse

After clogging Tegan's mentions with an accidental sequel thread to yesterday's, I'm shifting it over to a related thread with contextualizing screenshots, because there is something else I wanted to talk about here

Once you realize that when these people talk about anything, they're pulling extremely loose, abstracted from-first-principles definitions out of their ass - best explicated by @kh0rish.bsky.social - it's all you can see

Since I'm apparently doomed to continue talking about this, I'm going to explicate why the inverse of this - the people who have been as obsessed with hating Crumb as his worst fans are about loving/defending him - have always rubbed ME the wrong way

It's very rare that my vicarious rubbernecking at music-gear forums is relevant to what I talk about on here, but thanks to an errant email from an eighty something pedal builder and notorious asshole, this is one

These aren't even dog whistles - these are straightforward, barely disguised pitches for eradicating contaminating 'Negroid' and 'Asiatic' heritage from your child
December 4, 2025 at 6:05 PM
Tfw one of your bastard children finally tracks you down

I keep blocking em, and they keep popping back up
November 30, 2025 at 7:15 AM
Whole lot of 'huh' here
November 29, 2025 at 8:21 PM
The comment it's reporting on is actually even stupider than you'd imagine. Snake was already a quasi nostalgic throwback by the time it hit Nokia phones, what the hell are you talking about

Yep

Fun thread, but I should mention that since Burns works on several series concurrently, and he puts the ones he's currently working on up on his site, we actually know what the possible last two are already kenburns.com/the-films/

If it makes you feel better, no we aren't getting that
