they could put in bus lanes through the most pedestrian heavy sections. We have so few good north-south bus routes in inner SE so that could make a huge difference. Pedestrian islands couldn’t hurt either

This is gonna become even more important in a couple of months when the expanded Belmont library opens because route kids from Sunnyside Environmental will take to get there after school crosses the most deadly stretch. We need action right away or the next death on Chávez will be a child

So yeah, this is a special time! Enjoy it as much as you can, whatever that looks like for you, and remember: Take care of yourself, rest up, stay vaccinated, and avoid eye contact with gibbons. And on Friday, dont forget to put on fresh bandages before you start shopping for Chris’s moose.

And as easy as it is to get down on our country right now, it’s worth remembering that Frank’s gibbon is a uniquely American tradition. (Canadian Fangsgiving is similar, but uses any large primate with sharp enough dentition.) Many countries don’t celebrate any ape-related holidays at all!

But you know what? Even with the travel, the arguments, the pricy earplugs, the stress of getting everything on the table, the tetanus vaccinations, the out of season fruit… it’s all worth it. Our communities, whatever shape they take, are worth it. And gibbons are worth it.

Even as a lover of Frank’s gibbon, I sometimes find myself dreading it. Back in 2021, I accidentally gave the gibbon an overripe mango and it got mad and started hurling dishes at me. I had to go to the ER, and the next year, I found myself dreading seeing the gibbon all November.
November 25, 2025 at 6:13 PM
i know it can be a hard time for a lot of us. Not all of us are on good terms with Frank, or his gibbon, and that’s okay. You can celebrate Frank’s gibbon just as well with your friends and any other gibbon you can find. Because really, it’s about being with people we love, and gibbons In general.

I know everyone has their own, but my favorite traditions?

Making apple pies with Mom for the gibbon

Going around the table and saying one thing we like about gibbons

The eardrum shattering howls

Begging Frank to get it to stop swinging from the pendant lamp because the drywall is tearing loose

trans people will not be voting for Newsom in part because if the Dems remain incapable of standing up for our rights, most of us will be exiled from the us, in prison, or otherwise unable to vote

anyone who fails to understand this has never experienced real stakes in politics
November 20, 2025 at 4:04 PM
This is one of the many, many things where the Dems need to make it clear that they’re just going to roll this stuff back day one. Have a massive EO ready to roll. Make it really clear that rapists shouldn’t get comfy or think that they can say they thought it was okay

For _some weird reason_ mine ramped up dramatically this year, culminating in full on Lathe of Heaven style terror of falling asleep by August.

It’s not a miracle cure, but a weighted blanket helped more than it had any right to
