You had no idea if the alien was your kind of guy (or even if it was a guy at all), but sometimes Cupid has a funny way with those arrows.

New month, new story! I am so excited to have a piece in the latest issue of FFO, one of my very favorite magazines. Do you like queer stories inspired by myth? Petty goddesses? Ovidian transformations? Being sad? Birdwatching? “Ornithogonia, or Five Featherings” was written just for you! 🐦‍⬛

This is why non-romance people need to read more romance, honestly: will-they-won’t-they is fine but it is not the same narrative as “they did and then they did again and then they keep going but eventually someone’s gonna find out and then they’re REALLY fucked.”
but this? shut the fuck up. guess what, my man, gorgeous young 22 year olds like to fuck. And queer people deserve love stories that are sexy and horny. a "chaste kiss" please be for real.

Need to be revising my novel and also revising an old trunked short story this month, which of course means today I wrote almost 2,000 words of something brand new which doesn't remotely adhere to my normal process and I have no idea where I'm going with it 🙃

Outside of school, I never really tried my hand at short stories until about 2022, when I took an unfinished idea for a novel and turned it into an 11k-word novelette that I very ambitiously started submitting to any market that would take novelettes (and racked up some *very* swift rejections).
I was thinking about early writing recently and I'm curious—short fiction writers: what is the earliest short story you remember finishing that wasn't for a school project or anything?
