Former New York State Senator (D). Husband and father. History buff, amateur photographer. I believe in democracy, the Constitution, and the Golden Rule.
If you’re not appalled by this, I beg you to read the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, reflect on the sacrifices of every soldier who died defending our freedoms, and then look in the mirror and ask yourself if you actually care about any of that or believe in American values at all

No American President has ever had this power. A free society cannot endure if the President can personally decide who to prosecute, fire any officials who refuse to bring frivolous or fabricated charges, and install his hand-picked cronies as prosecutors to punish people he hates.

it really is interesting that they recognize it isn't politically possible to claim the US as a specifically anglo-saxon country and thus have to retroactively include groups of european immigrants — seen, at the time, as interlopers — as "white" people entitled to the same claim on national origins

I took this list to be things they recommend people not use in political comms, not words that should never be spoken in any context.

Yes, as a planner I used it often but as a political communicator I tried to avoid it because it comes off as technocratic not relatable.

I imagine just because “stakeholders” is a jargon-y word that almost no one actually uses except in professional contexts—just makes the speaker sound overeducated I think. No one actually says to themselves “I’m a stakeholder”, they say I’m interested in this issue/project.

What a stupid use of trained federal agents.

Would be hilariously on brand for Trump to force out a Republican he hates in order to get a MAGA weirdo who will lose to the Democrat in the general election. Without Collins, the GOP could kiss that Maine senate seat goodbye.

Juneteenth celebrates the struggle for freedom, and history teaches us that freedom must be fought for and defended tirelessly. Let us always remember that, and act on that knowledge.

Hesdra was a successful businesswoman and property owner, which was exceptionally rare for a Black woman during the mid 19th Century, and she used her connections in Nyack to help people escaping slavery on the Underground Railroad. A new plaque now stands by the bench to tell her remarkable story
