I'm currently trying to cook up a surface-level analysis of the themes in TLOAS, and although this is a little too specific for me, I still found it interesting!

(RE: promo of Taylor directing herself) Seeing discourse on r/popculturechat is interesting, because the terminology and theories our community has developed to understand Taylor's art just looks like weird contradictions outside our bubble.

It feels VERY "Dear Reader was for general audiences" imo

Clara Bow - The epilogue, I think. One day, she'll only *look like* Taylor Swift TM. She'll have that edge she never did back when she was still in the asylum. After she's out of the closet, not required to work for the industry who owns her works, she'll be able to just... be herself. No bearding, no more "fake it til you make it", no more gray. Taylor ends on a very hopeful note, looking forwards to a bright future where she can be *exactly* who she really is... Dazzling.

TSMWEL - She doesn't want her hetlor fans back anymore, she just wants to know if rusting her sparkling summer- denying her the chance to be openly queer after Lover- was that on purpose? This is also the end of the fortnight of songs in the album, so in some ways, this is the goodbye to that part of her life. "Did you even read the 1989 prologue? She hates gaylors!!!", Taylor essentially tried to "die" for the sins of her fandom here, but her gay community didn't abandon her after all the times hetlors have slid into inboxes and been insane. She died inside instead. Now, she'll never forgive this part of her fandom, the smallest people who ever lived.

Even if she's been depressed, performing while having to act publicly like she isn't gay, she was able to do it regardless. Fake it until you make it, right? She's telling the industry and her fandom that she's been made small, forced to conform to the norms of this circus of performing straightness. Guilty as Sin? - The cage of her stardom and relationship with the fans as the "Straight Taylor" was once just fine. But how can she be guilty as sin? She's kept those inconvenient gay thoughts locked away in a vault (rep vault, I'd assume, it's in lowercase). Hetlors will crucify her anyway, even though she hasn't even touched the skin (been openly part of) "him" (the gay community). I think she chooses being part of the gay community at the end, and yeah, you're allowed to cry after everything.

Florida!!! - I think Florida represents queer culture. It's a drug in how it feels good to be accepted, even though it can hurt you in other ways (how people treat you etc). It's not easy being queer, it's made Taylor want to forget a lot of things, but you can just bury them in Florida. Here, everyone has regrets, but we still live as openly queer people. Taylor, it seems, shrugs at the "negative consequences" of the taking the drug that is openly being queer. If she's accepted there, then Florida can fuck her up all it wants.

BDILH - She's not going to have "his" baby. Who is she marrying? Whose babies isn't she having? I think it's the gay community she's marrying. She's telling her paternal and strict management that shes going to come out this time. Her name, after reclaiming the masters of her albums, it's hers to disgrace. She's rather burn her career down than continue to listen to all the bitching and moaning about how "being publicly gay limits your reach, limits your sales" etc. If all what her fans want for her is gray, then that's just white noise to her. TTPD - the fandom (swifties) to taylor, "who else decodes you? who's gonna hold you like me(us)?" Taylor reflecting on the toxic possessiveness in her fandom, directed towards her. Fortnight - The fourteen days are the fourteen albums (Originals + TVs) that she has spent with her fandom. Problem is though, the comphet of it all has made her miserable. It's fourteen days between "Independence Tay" (Master announcement) and the 6 Year anniversary of the announcement of Lover, the "new aesthetic" that (almost) nobody noticed was gay. It made her miserable. It's the fans who didn't notice who are the reason, but it's not like they're to blame either- Taylor knows that she wasn't being very straight-forward in telling them. She loves her fandom, but the comphet-ness of many swifties is also killing her. She's held them for fourteen albums, but now, continuing it kills her.
