UNCLOS is a relatively new treaty, negotiated between 1973-82.
The differences between UNCLOS and previous international law on sinking boats/ships is (functionally) zero.

The administration should have told her that she wasn't required to attend university, & if she did she'd have to either drop courses or - god forbid - learn some things she didn't want to know. But no: killing higher education benefits punitive authoritarian governments. Education is in their way.

They misread his words because they didn't want to think he was the terrible, costly hypocrite he actually is. He's a banker; that ought to be have told them enough.
