In my, er, frank exchange of views with the Pink Ladies last weekend, council spending on taxis for asylum seekers' health appointments (they weren't genuinely ill, obv, bc only British born people get ill) was one of their rants.
The govt needs to stop pandering to this nonsense.

it’s funny how when people who own big houses are alive they had nothing to do with its value, but when they die their kids shouldn’t have to pay any inheritance tax because they worked VERY hard all their lives for it

I don't know exactly what it says that the Secretary General of the Archbishops' Council and General Synod chooses Nigel Biggar's book as one of his books of the year, but I don't think it's good.

There is a huge amount to be said for grim determination and spite.
One of the reasons i love tolkien is the theme that despair is an enemy

and it makes clear you don’t need to have constant hope, you can get by with grim determination or spite but never despair
You can be as terrified or nonplussed or unperturbed as you like; the sun will still rise tomorrow & the rent will still be due on the 31st. The world has no romantic narratives for its fate except those we invent, because the world does not die. That is our privilege.

The "don't have an extra kid if you can't afford it" brigade get awfully upset when you suggest they don't stay in their £2m house if they can't afford it, don't they?

Also, the victim was under 18 at the time of the offence, and therefore a girl, not a woman.
the bbc changed their article from saying 'trans woman' to saying 'biological male who identifies as a woman'.

even if you don't care about trans ppl it should alarm you just how captured the bbc has become.

they will no longer even say 'trans woman'. that's not normal and shows massive bias.

I think at this point if you're including Diane Abbott - a woman who has never held government office, has been a backbencher since 2020, and is scarcely a government ally - on your list of political wrongdoers, we all know exactly what your real concerns are

In a very me move indeed, I've just used this experience and the feelings of fear and anxiety it produced as homework and a discussion point for my phone CBT. 😆
Deeply unpleasant experience this afternoon. Those awful Pink Ladies women came to my town, together with a few blokes of far right persuasion.
I was approached by one of them, there was a frank exchange of views, and then suddenly there they were! 20 of them, a lot of them filming.

Kid A passed his MA! 🥳 With distinction no less! 🥳
Might now burst with pride and joy!
Also, I'll need a new dress for the graduation ceremony.

Michael Prescott says "I never even Googled Historians Reclaimed" before putting them into the report. Which feels quite negligent for something you include in a memo sent to the entire BBC board?

There are some truly unhinged bits in the piece about Glasman, as to be expected when dealing with Glasman, but seriously what the actual? That's...one hell of a conflation of terminology.

2 years of medical school, deeply unhappy, rang a tutor from the intercalated BSc course, a year of nutrition, post grad diploma, hey presto accidental dietitian.
One of my favourite accidents.
What’s the lore behind choosing your career path ?

Of all the many and varied meetings and synods it is my duty and my joy to attend, diocesan synod is my least favourite, by a country mile.

It's amazing.
Do please read it.

There's a poster in my workplace which among other things encourages people to be kind, be generous with their time etc.
But it also says "All ideas are good ideas" and....well. I don't know about that.
Some ideas are TERRIBLE ideas.
