On an indie scale a handful of purchases and a few sketch commissions can cover the cost of a booth at an event: for smaller creators like myself, every sale does matter.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

I benefit tremendously from a day job I never would have gotten if it wasn't for my veteran status- Lucky Red Comics couldn't pay for even half what it has without it.
I know we know this, but authors need to get better at talking about how they actually make their money. Stop pretending it's from the books.

With the very real possibility of Saudi Arabia gaining a substantial stake in Warner Bros, I'm not so sure I'd want to buy any more DC comics if that happened.
