This is a big big part of it for sure. It creates a vicious circle of updates and refreshments without anything actually new and people have literally invested in these games because of the dlc and virtual currency so they feel compelled to keep playing.

I 100% agree that indie games are the place these days to see any innovation - although this is likely to be partly due to restrictions of the power of thier development equipment compared to AAA studios, at least in some cases
es-de.org
Is it just me or do modern games not feel as innovative as their predecessors?

Is it that its harder to create new ideas these days because so much has been done?

Is it the fact that there are less restrictions to work around stifling innovation?

Is it both?

Game of the Weekend:

Chill this weekend with a classic that became very well knownwith the rise in home computers. This version is a true tribute to those early versions with simple graphics and gameplay.

In your opinion what retro gaming platform has the best library of games?

Its tough for me to narrow down but for variety I think Gameboy.

And the award for strangest lightgun design goes to the Sega Menacer.
es-de.org
Many cores sopport lightgun touchscreens and its usually as simple as changing controller type (some systems like snes you have to change player 2 controller) and the game is Super scope 6 on Snes9x via retroarch

I think there are options but nothing universal or consistent, this tied with the rise of VR makes it less likely to see something outside of that type of system.

Did you know many emulators support handling for lightguns, which paired with android touchscreen makes for a great experience

Since i learned this i cannot put down this game.
Annoyingly addictive.

Why dont modern consoles have light guns?

Its such a lost game format. The only place you can play these now is in bowling alley arcade areas these days.

This makes me sad.

Game of the Weekend:

For many this was the first "fighting game" that caused many kids to argue on a home computer.

Hidden Gem:

Sticking with 1998, this game took the world by storm by being 3D.

But wasnt everything then going 3D?

For me?

End of 1998 - Metal Gear Solid, Half-Life and Ocarina of Time. What a time to be a gamer

Game of the Weekend:

An early game to use the CD-ROM format and originally an exclusive for Macs this game changed many perceptions of just how immersive a game can become.
