I expect them (or the retraction mechanism) to be the first thing to fail, but they feel robust enough at this point. they are flat ribbon style and there has obviously been a lot of thought put in to making them sturdy and reinforced. Have had no problems at all with them after months of heavy use.

other major benefit: with one cable in from the wall it does passthrough charging to two devices. it has ended up tidying our whole charging mess.
