basically just the thematic background radiation of the entire genre since MSG released in 1979. Soldiers alienated by war are so common in art about war, and mecha pilots alienated by piloting mecha such a natural distinction that mechsplo and "real robot" become practically synonymous.

It's so weird that people use it that way, because "Death of the author" is when J.K. Rowling says "my depiction of goblins was not antisemitism" and I say "sure, Joanne" and then ignore her to figure out whether it's antisemitism by reading the actual books. (I probably won't read the books.)

It makes for a comic that never tries to convince you there is anything excusable about being a sex offender, but also, a recurring character has nothing likeable or redeemable about them.

Gundams keep having Char clones when they really should be having Jerid clones. There's more to get invested in with a character who is personally motivated by things to fight the protagonists, over a villain largely defined by being enigmatic.

Interesting idea, but two pitfalls to design around come to mind:
1: Instead of picking a weapon for my character, I pick a build for the best weapon.
2. I can't keep up because no good weapon for my build has dropped for like ten levels, and I'm bad with the rest. (See point #1.)
