Maybe Zelda isn't the best comparison because plotwise those games are distanced by millenia and different timelines while Metroid is set in a relatively small linear timeframe BUT it still ain't Metal Gear or anything lol

Metroid continuity is similar to Zelda in a way. Wind Waker and Twilight Princess are both explicitly directly tied to Ocarina Of Time and that game's events are extremely important to both but you don't need to play it at all

There IS continuity between games but for the most part it's just 2 sentences worth of information. Plus almost every 2D game (Super, Fusion, Samus Returns, & Dread) as well as Other M recap (or at least give enough info from) the previous chronological games.

All you have to know is "Sylux hates Samus and the Galactic Federation." Prime 2/3 all you need to know is "Phazon is evil." Super? "Samus killed all Metroids except a baby." Fusion? "it died." Dread? "Samus has Metroid DNA, her suit is rebuilding & there's dangerous parasites"

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't he initially just an executive producer for 4 with Shuyo Murata directing but then people sent death threats which forced him to step up to director seat even tho he would've still been involved either way lol
