Here we go! At Xmas I brazenly agreed to run a half marathon. Then I went into denial and didn’t start running until April. THEN I didn’t start fundraising until a month ago because I didn’t believe it would happen 😅

Wish me luck & please consider donating ❤️

So in awe of these brilliant women that I’ve overcome my TikTok aversion to try and share their stories further…

Imagine being so passionate about domestic abuse that you dedicate your career to supporting victims - only to become one yourself at the hands of your own institution.

This is the story of three policewomen with one shared experience.

For most of this year, I’ve been working on one story - and I’m so excited for it to finally be out in the world.

Observer subscribers can listen now to the podcast version. Throughout this week, the rest of you will be able to listen and read the story too. Watch this space 🔍

Great story from @robbiejourno.bsky.social that I enjoyed all the more as my (now late) granny campaigned for the first supermarket to be opened in Castlemilk in the 90s! Resulting in her opening a subsequent shop as covered by the Evening Times (she called for a correction when they misnamed me 😭)

Don’t need any encouragement to join in this one

Such a treat to get this through my letterbox last week!

One of my 2024 highlights was delivering a community journalism course for women affected by gambling, with my local magazine @greatergovanhill.com. This edition of the mag is home to all the stories participants produced on the course!

And similarly, this film where women who had been in relationships with undercover police officers came together to share their experiences ahead of the Undercover Policing Inquiry publishing its interim report

But the films I'm proudest of were two which focused on brilliant, brave women.

First, bringing together whistleblowers from Police Scotland for the first time to share their experiences of bullying and misogyny.

🎬 I started the year at Newsnight mainly working on investigations and stories from Scotland.

Then Nicola Sturgeon promptly resigned so I ended up doing lots of SNP leadership election coverage including producing the programme from parliament on a few occasions

When younger/aspiring journalists ask me advice about pitching, I always find myself talking about the difference between a subject and an angle. I think these Google results might have just explained it better than I ever have...
