the biggest problem we *already have* in open source right now, which we have oversimplified into the term "supply chain security", is the lack of understanding that putting a dependency in your project's dependency set (package.json, pyproject.toml, requirements.txt, cargo.toml, etc) is not […]

What happened with Insomnia? (the http testing tool). I can't find a way to make a simple HTTP request anymore 😢

@me unless you self-host the LLM, this is probably at least a sub-processor with regards to GDPR.

We got 4 USB 3 ports. 1 parallel port, 2 serial ports, 1 GB ethernet and 6 DisplayPorts. Yes, 6!

This is on a Dell Wyse 5090 'Extended' thin client, which is my favourite system right now and will be my main media server at home.

You can pick it up for $50 on ebay, and runs 5 Watt idle. Check out these ports though!

I used btop here because it lets you filter out kernel threads. ps, top and htop show bigger lists and while useful (lets you see what the kernel is doing), I like just seeing which actual real processes are running to get a better sense of the system.

Process list on a clean Debian install is so short! Feels nice to start with such a minimal system. Know every process and why it's running and add what I need.

Only sshd was added at this point
Screenshot of btop, showing a process list of roughly 30 processes

Finally watched 'The Substance' after having to pause and continue the next day because it's so grotesque. Curious how people felt stepping out of the theater. Jeez

Hot take: `curl [url] | bash` is no worse than `npm i [package]`

When deleting project directories, #git has trained me to use -f, because .git will always have some write-protected files

strictNullChecks is too annoying in javascript-only (jsdoc) projects

I used to love Lego but aren't all the brand tie ins kinda annoying and opposite of timeless?

I mostly switched to pure CSS now. But dang i miss Sass' `@extends`

Figma should allow more things than colors to refer to CSS variables, and it should have a CSS export for all variables

Do you read any blogs of people you disagree with mostly, but are interesting?

I feel I would make such a good electrician because I would just label and document things

@jbcrawford DisplayLink is the worst. No kernel drivers on stock Fedora, and they seem poorly maintained and broke subsequent updates + it made my xps13 run crazy hot

Doing a minimal Debian install has been one of my best recent Linux experiences. Kind of forgot what its like to get a processlist with only a few processes and for each you know what it does.

Do people still unplug things during thunderstorms, or did something change in our devices or grid that it's no longer needed?
