I felt quite sorry for the Labour councillor who got nearly a 10 minute rant from me when they canvassed a few weeks ago. After the last couple of days I don’t know what I’d say tbh. A moral collapse the size of which I never expected even from the Labour right-wing.

I love the book so much - sadder and with a sense of tangible loss for Anne Elliot. So good!

read / listen to some stuff about the history of the Labour Party - it’s always been highly factional - and the current v right / technocratic Labour first group has effectively taken over the party machine and seems to care about their position in that machine way more than re-election

It’s a GOOD THING we NEED IT TO HAPPEN and THAT is why we should refuse to have any discussion of limiting migration. It’s not about the fascist threat (that Labour is absolutely pandering to right now). It’s about the fact that it’s actually something we shouldn’t concede.

There is a perfectly logical centrist market-based argument for migration to the UK. We have a falling birth rate, £5 trillion in future pension liabilities, not to mention a national skills service in loads of key industries including both low (care) and high (computing) paid work.

Immigration is a good thing for Britain and I don’t just mean that in a vague “my kid made roti at nursery this week for Diwali and I like ordering jerk chicken and chips for lunch at my local pub”. I mean: it’s a good thing for our national finances, for our infrastructure, for our skills economy.
