Based on the long-running success of the books, the quality of the show--and my enjoyment of the TV version of the characters--I'm confident the fault lies in my state of mind at the time I read the first book and less with Herron's writing!

I didn't really enjoy the first book and haven't read any of the others.

ah, it wasn't the monthly assignment, first scripting an issue off Chris's plot, then asked to fully write the issue that concluded a story I had no idea how it was supposed to end under shifty editorial manipulations and growing discord between various parties.

I dove in excited to return but I was REALLY nervous taking over after your run!
(and I'm the guy who shrugged his shoulders at writing the 1st issue of Uncanny X-Men without Chris Claremont's name in the credits after 17 years!)
