Gríðr is a jotunn from Norse myth who by Odin is the mother of Víðarr the Silent. She warned Thor about Geirröðr's intentions & lends him her girdle of might and iron gloves, as well as her own staff, Gríðarvölr.

Grendel's mother lives in an underwater cave & seeks vengeance after her son's death. Beowulf kills her as well. Like her son, what exactly she is is unclear.

Grendel is a monster in Beowulf & the Anglo- Saxon Chronicle. He's described as a monster, probably a giant who lives in aquatic areas, like fens and marshes. He was killed by Beowulf & his mother then attempted to avenge him & was also killed.

Greip is a figure from Norse myth. In Þórsdrápa, she is a daughter of Geirröðr, and the sister of Gjálp. The sisters hid beneath a chair so that when Thor sat down, they lifted the seat up towards the roof to crush him. But Thor pushed up against the rafters hard & broke their backs.

The Green Man is a mysterious figure from European mythology. He appears carved on churches as a leafy face, but was also a figure in medieval & Renaissance plays. Sometimes he carried fireworks. He is most likely pre- Christian in origin & is probably a symbol of fertility & rebirth.

Graeae (gray women) are sea hags who personify the white foam of the sea. They have gray hair & share amongst themselves a single, detatchable eye and tooth. Their names are Deino (the terrible), Enyo (the warlike), Persis (the destoyer) & Pemphredo (she who guides the way).

Gorgones (Terrible, Fierce) are 3 mythical women, Medusa, Sthenno & Euryale, from Greek mythology. They have snake hair, large eyes, wide mouths, pig tusks, flared nostrils, & sometimes short, coarse beards.

Goreu fab Custennin is 1 of 24 sons of Custennin & is a cousin of Arthur. Ysbaddaden killed his father & his brothers. Goreu escaped because his mother hid him in a cupboard. He beheaded Ysbaddaden to avenge his father and his brothers.

Gondul is valkyrie from Norse mythology. In the Hakonarmal, Gondul comes to choose from among the dead warriors to go to Valhalla. She tells King Hakon that Odin's army is growing stronger now that Hakon & his forces are coming to Valhalla.

Golden Hair is a character from the Russian fairytale, Golden Hair. She is the daughter of Poloz, the Great Snake, a giant magical snake creature from the Ural Mountains. Although she appears human, she is part of this magical lineage.

King Goldemar is a famous kobold in Germanic folklore who lived in Hardenstein Castle. He was invisible but could be felt & he would eat food put out for him. Because he was invisible he could spy on the royal court & the clergy & see their secret sins.

Goibniu is the metalsmith of the Tuatha Dé Danann in Irish mythology. He'a also the provider of the sacred otherworld feast, the Fled Goibhnenn, & the special ale of immortality. Goibniu is also known as Gobbán Saer (Gobbán the Joiner), legendary builder of churches.

Goblins are now well known in the fantasy genre. The name comes from the Greek word "Kobalos," which means evil spirit. They appear in European myth as mischievous figures, but they don't emerge as their own species until the modern era. Instead goblin was more of a catch all term for evil spirits.
