People want moderation. They don't like when it comes for them, but if it makes sense and they see other people getting the same consequence for the same behavior they accept it. It is a hard problem for tech folks because it resists automation, but you can do a lot with just a little human touch.

The insights I had were that you need to explain the rules and how you're enforcing them and accept the culture you have and make changes to the margins rather than try to make a place something it's not. Slate comments are small scale, but it could work for large scale moderation as well.
