I wonder how many of the big consulting and accounting firms won't survive this crash.

Being unburdened by expectation or nostalgia is a great way to walk into a cinema.

Saw The Tallis Scholars in concert tonight at Adelaide Town Hall. I will never cease to be amazed what is possible when you combine great singing voices with good acoustics and music written to exploit the potential of both.

Mac OSX Tahoe is something else. So much roundness! I like it in a kind of retro-futuristic sort of way. The colours are a bit extreme. But that often happens when Apple adopts a new design language. It calms down after a few updates. Going to spend a weekend afternoon exploring menus and settings.

First time trying acupuncture today. 90 minute consultation. Long conversation about all sorts of health topics. Very calm and safe environment. Certainly felt something during my treatment. Neither pleasant nor unpleasant. Left in a chill yet focussed mood which persisted all night. Will try again.

There was a Junior Tradies school holiday play area in a local shopping mall today. Kids could dress up in little high-vis jackets and matching tiny safety helmets and do "tradie work."

I can't decide if this is harmless fun. Or is it some kind of propaganda. Preparing kids to accept their future.

One of the things that was nice about growing up in "The Shire" was rivers and waterways to explore. Love a slow boat trip that gets you to a quiet beach or calm location to chill in.

I feel like they weren't that big a thing back then? Not sure. Here the rule is they should be below 4knots within 200m of the beach shore. They don't observe that. And in shallow water kids are sometimes playing nearly that far off the beach anyway.

I haven't had a boat license in a long time. But, when I first got mine there was no practical exam for a basic license. Kind of crazy really.

Not intended as a criticism. Just interested in how you're taking advantage of location. Hiring a nice boat would be a lot of fun.

Boat license sounds interesting!

Has anyone suggested parking the clocks halfway?

Nice. I am increasingly surprised by how big a role live in person events have in the literary scene in Australia and the idea of what being an author is here.

If I was going to start something like an online literary journal I would try doing it with leaflet or something similar.

Thank you. I always wonder how many readers still use RSS.

And the blog will live on as long as the internet still works.

Today was a public holiday here. The only difference for me was I didn’t go grocery shopping.

There is 0% chance I will try Mastodon again. But if this is the end then please know I’ve always enjoyed your posts and replies.

This is something I remember often lamenting about. I would post a link to a blogpost on Twitter. And people would read the article but return to Twitter to comment on it. Thousands of comments over several years.

That said I also love AT Protocol as well. It was the idea we needed back in 2015. I guess it was around but Twitter lacked the courage to push through.

But we, or at least I, need both. A new authentication/ID system to bring things together. And a platform with global network effects.

I like leaflet. It feels like a great option instead of Substack/Medium etc.

But I also have a theological commitment to self-hosted for anyone who does anything that's art in the broadest sense. My blog at my domain has outlived so many fashions in web content. That matters to me.

I didn't see wafflegate on my timeline. But I did see a lot of people posting "you can find me on other platforms" stuff.

Meanwhile the Financial Times delivered the receipts on social media's slow death.

The two are, of course, related.
