the merciless frontier

A cowboy lays on a rock somewhere out in the desert, his hand on his chest, he says "the frontier's a merciless and unforgiving place, full of things you city slickers'd not believe or understand. A few days ago I decided to try'n deputize a rooster."
We see now a chicken wearing a cowboy hat and a bandana and a gun belt. It is riding a small pig like a horse.
"gave it a little hat'n everything. That's just the kind of thing we do."

The pistol goes off in the rooster's hand, it looks startled. The pig looks startled.
"it was all a laugh til that damn cock up and shot me."

The cowboy leans back on the rock, sweating, blood coming from the spot on his chest he was holding, and says "guess that's what I get for trying to impose meaning and order on a creature with no capacity for either."
