Aside from the ridiculous “biological people” language, I really hate the sneering dishonesty of “the fiction they had rights that have been taken away”. If you’re a trans woman who’s been in the WI for decades and now can’t remain a member, that’s not a fiction!
Kishwer Falkner in The Times talking about the rights of "biological people". As compared to trans people, who are, of course, non-biological.

My head nearly fell off. The actual Minister for Health said this?

Ultimately this is the point where the wider state needs to step in with a massive banhammer

Block the website from UK IPs, imprision anyone involved with the company who visits the UK. The state does have power here, but has learned helpnessness with tech
I wonder how much Ofcom’s failure to use even the limited powers it has against Twitter is based on concern that it would be quite revealing when Musk just ignores any ruling.

A prime example of how the far right can never be appeased. Give them whatever they demand and they’ll bank it, then use it as a new base camp to strike out for more and worse.

From what I've seen the vast majority of women involved in these groups are not supportive of these changes - they're mostly supportive of trans involvement.

It's outside pressure trying to paternalistically 'protect' cis women, bc they obviously don't know what's best for them 😒
First the Girl Guides and now another venerable British institution is bullied (and capitulates) into discrimination against their will by another fine British institution: the pure bigotry of a small cabal of the meddling rich and a craven media whipping up a moral panic

Labour MPs/MSPs need to be reminded of this every time they try and associate themselves with our community
It's worth remembering that the government could stop the exclusion of trans people from public life any time they want.

If the Equality Act had never existed, and someone proposed to pass a law banning women’s organisations from choosing to welcome trans people, we’d think it was a pretty extreme proposal. I don’t think it’s less extreme because it’s come about as a result of a new interpretation of an old law.

"I spoke to one 80-year-old woman who has been in our organisation for decades, who said it was one of the greatest experiences of her life, and the only place in her 80 years where she’s been treated as a woman with respect.”

What does this do for women's rights?

Following on from Girl Guiding making a similar statement - this is because these community groups cannot match the legal fees that transphobes are able to fund. They would rather these community groups fall to financial ruin that accept trans women.

A lot of these legal funds come from JK Rowling.

A Labour government passed the Equality Act. A Labour government was in power when the Supreme Court interpreted it to not mean what ministers at the time were clear it was intended to mean. The Labour government response should have been to legislate to fix it. Not doing so was a cowardly betrayal.

I’d really like a GC person to justify this particular case of trans exclusion. It’s not a limited membership organisation so trans girl guides aren’t taking spaces that would otherwise go to cis girl guides. It’s not competitive so there’s no cheating angle. Girl Guides itself doesn’t want to do it
i hope every single person who still buys harry potter merch or engages with that franchise is happy that they're literally making girl guides cry

girl guides uk have been forced very much against their will to exclude trans girls. full statement is here: www.girlguiding.org.uk/information-...

That MSPs are now openly saying stuff like this is chilling. "Controversial groups like LGBT Youth Scotland"? LGBTYS didn't need to be in my schools for me to be gay, but they sure as hell would have helped me avoid 9 years of fear and self-loathing if they had been. Despicable stuff.

"Controversial groups like LGBT Youth Scotland" is real mask off stuff, genuinely nobody in the Ruth Davidson era of the Scottish Conservatives would have been... brave, or stupid, enough to just openly say that. That is where Ross/Findlay have taken the party, and where the culture wars have went.
There's few MSPs I will celebrate losing their seats next year more than Pam Gosal - a ghoul who is so open about her hatred that she would have looked extreme even in the heights of the anti-gay hate in the 1980s.

"Supporting queer youth" is a "harmful ideology" to her and she doesn't even pretend
