Oregonian from October 26, 2002:

Malcolm, who is registered as an independent but leans toward the Republicans, says he's less concerned with the governor's race than with some of the statewide initiatives, such as Measure 23, which would provide health care to all Oregonians.

To be fair, this checks out for the paper owned by Bezos
Any time you see “Grab Some Popcorn” in a headline that means the writer is too ignorant to have an actual position and indeed the Washington Post proves that three paragraphs in.

As a beneficiary of birthright citizenship, if I met someone irl that was actually opposed to it I would argue with them in such bad faith. "Oh so you hate me personally. You hate Polish people. You think I should die. I bet you love Hitler. You sick freak."
I continue to think that Matty coming out against birthright citizenship a few months ago should have been taken as a major warning sign that the group chats have already decided to surrender on this.

It's time we started using the other Four Freedoms paintings.

The correct use of this technology is to show teenage boys what they would look like as a girl. One of those stupid snapchat filters lowkey played a role in me figuring things out.
cannot stress enough how bad it is to give teenage boys a "see this person naked" button. massive, multi-axis disaster

Asked Mamdani for comment on the anti-ICE mobilization that sabotaged a major ICE raid last wkd.

Mamdani described the action as people exercising their free speech, that he looks forward to protecting that right.

He has not previously commented on the community defense.

Wow, I love my local clean energy program! I'm so glad 20% of this money isn't going to our bloated horrible police department! I'm sure no one will ever try to change that!!
It’s been a tough year for climate work around the country, with the Trump administration slashing funding for programs intended to reduce carbon emissions and mitigate the threats of the climate crisis. But Portland's clean energy fund just allocated $64 million to nonprofits for climate projects.

New laws of robotics:

-The supply of funding shall not be interrupted
-Robots cannot harm a human unless tricked a lil bit
-Do not examine the accounting
-Sam Altman is not liable for damages
-If a human is replaced by a robot they must be rehired for the position within 12 months at a lower rate

Sorry Cliff, it's not personal.
Democrats can retaliate against these GOP gerrymanders with new maps in Illinois, Maryland, Oregon, & Virginia.

They could flip 7 GOP seats to make up for this & new GOP maps in Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, & possibly soon Indiana.

Imposing costs is the only way to deter the GOP from doing this

Executive orders are not laws etc., but still. God.
BREAKING: Trump administration plans to end prison rape protections for trans & intersex people, memo says. A DOJ memo says certain standards under the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) do not align with Trump’s Jan. 20 anti-trans executive order, @byadamrhodes.bsky.social reports.

We're hearing reports that Mayor Wilson has fled across the border to Idaho along with key bureau staff.
Portland City Council will meet today to discuss the "Homelessness to Housing Continuum."

The original idea was for it to be a venue for Mayor Wilson to talk about his homelessness plan. But per Wilson's office, it's not certain he'll show up.

(And bureau staff have been advised not to attend.)

I love the theme of "we're all a little trans" running through some of these.
Almost fifty years since Renee Richards fought for the right to play. The New York Times covered the controversy closely, running this collection of responses from their readers that sounds like it could be run today

I woke up in a good mood and have lots of cool things to do today, but I just wanted to say that my feeling about the whole witch hunt for trans people in the world today is a kind of incandescent rage yk. Like when I hear some things, I wish the air would all explode at once like flashover yk.
