I passed the Quonset hut style la Puente/ Star Theater 2 times a day all the way through high school.
It was opened in 1947,closed in 2007 and demolish in 2019 .in the late 70's and 80's it declined due to newly built malls and megaplex's and began showing porn movies for a while .

With thanksgiving soon upon us, I reminisce of my days working on a turkey farm during the holiday breaks from school.paid a dollar more per hour then the min wage of 1.65,plus a free breakfast of fried turkey eggs and meat and lunch of turkey spaghetti, everyday the same thing.

Milk delivery from Alta Dena dairy in glass quart returnable bottles for about 30 cents
Bread and pastry neighborhood street vendor from Helms bakery .i was always hoping to buy a day old donut for 3 to 5 cents

The Nike missile project was a defense shield during the cold war that was deployed in allied countries and the united states. I grew up in the shadow of site LA29 in the Brea/Puente hills of los Angeles . It was active from 1958 to 1971.the only thing left of the site is crumbling concrete.

During the great depression, pres. Roosevelt started the Civilian Conservation Corps(1933-1942) giving jobs to 3 million unemployed men from 17-28,working the national and state parks. They received food,shelter,clothes and 30 dollars a month, 25 of it had to be sent home to help the family.

when people remember or think of the Woodstock Music & Art Fair in August 1969 ,it is done through rose-colored glasses. it was a little more trying then sex ,drugs and rock n roll .they had 1 inch of rain on Sunday the 17th.

Taylor camp, a commune founded by Howard Taylor (Liz Taylor's bro) in 1969 on 7 acres on the north shore of Kauai .it lasted until 1974, but some stragglers remained until 1977. google it for the complete story

61 years ago, January 16,1964, the whiskey a go go in Hollywood opened its doors with their first musical guest, Johnny Rivers. That year he released 2 live albums from these appearances.
