Didn’t get to watch the full game, only the final part in a highlight. Truly baffling based off all of the comments from Sharks and Canucks fans

Like, how do you mess THIS up? Did they mean to call everyone but Elias Pettersson for roughing?
November 29, 2025 at 12:24 AM
he’s so good and I’m very jealous

Weisbrod is the bigger missing piece imo

You 8-3 it
November 26, 2025 at 4:57 AM
Yeah I mean he’s playing on a line rn with EP40 and Kane, and Kane shoots from everywhere so that’ll drag it down a little
November 25, 2025 at 5:07 PM
He’s shooting at that clip and it’s not mitigating the other errors (imo) and that says a lot

There are a lot of pluses to his game (energy, shot, work ethic) that I love. But he loses his guy and does not read the play well away from the puck quite frequently.

That’s something structure can mitigate, but the Canucks don’t have any at this point.

If they were a GPS, you'd only be able to set "get into the playoffs" as a destination and then the minute you go off course it just infinitely loops on recalculating every 5 seconds for the next [insert days/months/years].

(also I think Tocchet's systems were built to win on tight margins and those margins are really, really tough to win if key players get injured and you don't have depth, which few teams in the league do)
November 24, 2025 at 10:47 PM
Boudreau was because he drastically changed how they played and had good offensive philosophies, but once teams were able to study them they were easy to pick apart.

Tocchet's were partly bad vibes and partly what his coaching style led to. They built a poor team to start 24-25 and it crushed them

I should write a "Can the 2025–26 Vancouver Canucks be the 2018–19 St. Louis Blues?" article that goes in depth and then at the bottom "TL;DR: no"

For example, they've allowed the most shot attempts, shots, expected goals, high danger chances, and second most scoring chances against per 60 at 5v5 in the league.

That's going to make your goaltending look bad.
November 24, 2025 at 7:02 PM
Yeah, that was the year OEL had a foot fracture in the offseason IIRC.

They allow more cross-ice passes and have sloppier coverage. Their defensive structures are legitimately a huge worry and I think that might be a bigger issue than the goaltending.

I think you could legitimately flip flop the rankings of their D (25-30th) and F (8-12th) ranks then and you'd get what their ranks were entering the season (D: 8-12th, F: 25-30th).

They're equally bad, just different and the systems are... not great on the d side of things
