So it turns out vanilla works great as a fine-grained, high contrast developer. This was 5 minutes in 1%w/w aqueous vanillin with probably 3-5%w/w sodium carbonate. I still need to work out the relationship between reduction potential and pH, but I didn't expect it to just work on the first go.

The filter factor for UV-A is quite significant.
A flower in ultraviolet light. The green parts of the plant are black, but the petals of this flower reflects at the far end of UV-A (near 330 nm), so they render as yellow. A woodpecker perched on a log. The image is mostly monochrome except for a violet tint to the dry grass, which reflects a little light around 320 nm.
