Speaking to a man in the #carehome, telling him how I got smiles & patter from his mum that morning, he told me she was always angry or silent to him now. My well meant account didn't offer him comfort, it cut deep. It made me think back to a similar time with my nanna #dementia

Absolutely! restorative clinical supervision is vital to support individuals and develop resilient systems - it's not the responsibility of the individual to 'bounce back'!
charliepsych.bsky.social
The way I see it- the foundation for healthcare should be a person being alongside another person, & a process of listening/understanding. This involves regularly facing human pain & distress, so having in place some kind of supportive structure (eg 'clinical supervision') is really important.

We were delighted to work with the UKHSA PNAs. The programme really helped them to build on & consolidate the knowledge, skills & confidence they gained through the PNA module, enabling them to return to practice & foster spaces & relationships with colleagues to facilitate learning & development

Take a look at this Final Evaluation Report for the UKHSA prog to support the development of PNA facilitation skills

Home vs home...'home' is where you feel safe, known & loved. A #carehome supports this too—with help, structure & community. The difference? Maybe just who's around you, what's around you. People shape the meaning of home. Shared values make it feel real.
