There's easy wins there too - a browser extension that pulled site notifications from multiple sites into one place would make keeping up with galleries a lot easier, with zero downside to gallery operators. I want to figure out ways we can go that are healthy for the ecosystem.
foxyoreos.bsky.social
There's just a lot of complexity to think of there to try and figure out a way of doing it that is both actually useful, and also isn't going, "hey gallery operators, cool features you're building, but nopony is ever going to see them because we're all just looking at art through an electron app."
foxyoreos.bsky.social
So if you liked a picture on Itaku and went to FA and are following the artist on both sites, an extension could auto-like and remove the pictures you've already seen on Itaku from your FA feed.

That way it's not replacing either site, it's just helping you out with managing an account on both.

Currently what I've been musing is to not have a completely separate app (like an RSS reader), and instead to have a web extension that could kind of unify some of your accounts - but not by replacing any of the site interfaces.
foxyoreos.bsky.social
I don't want a dedicated reader to sap sites of the features that make them unique, or to be completely misaligned with the goals of gallery maintainers. And that's sort of left me going back to the drawing board to figure out something that isn't just scraping galleries into a single feed.

I've been thinking for a while about a kind of reverse Postybirb that allows following artists across multiple sites, but I've held off a little bit on trying to advocate for it based both on time and because I want to figure out how to avoid some of the potential downsides.

Honestly, I'm not sure it will standardize on a single site, which sucks because Bluesky was my excuse to stop having conversations about why I'm not on Twitter.

I'm going to stick around on Bluesky for a while if for no other reason than that Jay wants us to leave. But otherwise, gonna diversify.
foxyoreos.bsky.social
I have a lot of thoughts, including about how to try and make this easier for users, but it's just about trying to find time to organize them and think them through.
foxyoreos.bsky.social
I need to write up something longer about this, but I'm still doing a bunch of research as well.

I have a Mastodon, but I understand critters may not want to use that. I'm also starting to post more casually on Itaku, which is much more Tumblr-inspired.

And looking into a few other sites too.

In the meantime, I'm working on getting some of my backlogs uploading again to other galleries.

There are some fun pieces going up <3

It just gives me so much confidence that if artists ever have concern about a feature that gets built, the whole dev team will be extremely protective of our rights and extremely interested in our concerns.

Anyway, still waiting to find out if the art I draw is welcome on this site, so that's fun.
foxyoreos.bsky.social
idk about you but I definitely trust the Bluesky developers to understand the concerns of artists on this site. I'm shocked to discover that a dev team that jokingly shares AI-generated images with each other would also be really lax about finding and crediting artists.

A (censored) Bluesky thread between a random user and a developer.

First post: "swayfx mentioned omg. Also is your profile picture kenma from Haikyuu? I really can't identify but the character is quite cute."

Bluesky Dev's reply: "Lol, I'm not actually sure. Some art that I got off of pinterest."

Trying a new thing where any time I comment or post something on Bluesky I also try to post or comment on Itaku or another gallery.

If you're a furry vore artist on Itaku, comment your account! Help me find more artists to follow <3

It really is kind of of embarrassing to look at the amount of VC money dropped into Bluesky and to compare it to how much more useful Postybirb is for artists without any of that investment.
foxyoreos.bsky.social
It would not be hard for a few wealthier furries or developers with a lot more free time to *vastly* improve the state of the ecosystem, just by doing shit like updating the program to take advantage of new features, fix performance issues, etc..

Postybirb is really efficient, development-wise.
foxyoreos.bsky.social
Worth adding to this, Postybirb is developed with a minuscule fraction of the resources that go to any part of Bluesky - and still manages to be one of the most useful artist tools I have.

If more of the resources being plugged into decentralized protocols were plugged into Postybirb..

If you're worried about censorship of that kind of art, it's just unquestionably better for different gallery sites to be making different tradeoffs and allowing different subsets of art on them.
foxyoreos.bsky.social
But it's really not as simple as just moving to a different state. The only way I can think of for FA to allow cub is for it to get a lot *more* censorious about other categories of art.

And some sites like Inkbunny make that tradeoff, but it is a tradeoff and not one that every site should make.
foxyoreos.bsky.social
There IS away out of that system, but only through coordinated, mass-organized political advocacy for the merits of NSFW and sex workers to produce legal art - and that will likely take multiple years of consistent effort.

It is a thing that NSFW artists *need* to do, it will get worse otherwise.
foxyoreos.bsky.social
Inkbunny doesn't have to ban cub *because* it bans art with humans (and with humanoid characters). e621 similarly has rules on how animal a picture needs to be, and they've sited.. restrictions from payment processors and financial partners.

This is almost universal.
foxyoreos.bsky.social
Sure, but my point is you all are going to have to make some kind of tradeoff short of taking political action (which, if you'd like to take political action, see stop-paypros.neocities.org)

But the sites you're looking at that don't ban cub only get around that restriction by banning other art.
foxyoreos.bsky.social
If you were an artist hit by the 2.7 bans, I fully 100% understand saying, "well fuck that I'm not going back." That is reasonable. I was not shy about how I felt about FA's handling of that situation.

I'm saying, as somepony who was not shy about how I felt about ANY of that, I recommend FA now.
foxyoreos.bsky.social
But, Furaffinity is not a bad site to include in your galleries. I'm optimistic about the site's future.
