It almost seems unethical that they don't teach English at all lol
December 6, 2025 at 3:22 PM
Ya I figured haha. I also wish they weren't so discriminatory towards English speakers. I literally switched back to OHIP due to being denied treatment having an extremely difficult time receiving the care I need. Gatineau especially is so close to Ottawa (English-speaking) so it's strange
December 6, 2025 at 3:19 PM
I'm assuming you meant they only provide services in French. That's crazy, so no English at all otherwise. That seems so shitty for them if they ever want to move somewhere else
December 6, 2025 at 3:16 PM
That's why I think it's strange that they emphasize learning French so much, but don't do the same for teaching English in Quebec
December 6, 2025 at 3:13 PM
That's okay if it's the other way around since we don't really need to speak French after learning it unless you plan on moving something French speaking or working a government job (not just in Ottawa, anywhere in Canada requires that)
December 6, 2025 at 3:12 PM
What do you mean officially a unilingual province? Does that mean they actually don't have English classes the way we have French classes or they're not allowed to speak English? That feels constrictive and makes them confined to Quebec since they won't be able to communicate anywhere else in Canada
December 6, 2025 at 3:10 PM
It seems like the Quebec government's language policies just make things harder for everyone? I think it would be beneficial to everyone if they helped them speak fluent English too, no? I think it should be required for healthcare workers especially to be able to speak both
December 6, 2025 at 3:08 PM
I think that's fine since English is the main language anyway. But what about when Quebecois want to travel around Canada or to different countries around the world? I feel Iike it just makes it so much harder for them if the schools don't teach them
December 6, 2025 at 3:05 PM
When I lived in Alberta, they also start to learn French in grade 1, so I think it's expected nationally
December 6, 2025 at 3:02 PM
Please let me know if you know anything about why this is the way it is, this post was about curiosity/ wanting to learn what the English education system is like in Quebec. It is objectively unfair to be expected to speak fluent French while some people are less than beginner level English
December 6, 2025 at 9:19 AM
You are making assumptions and jumping to conclusions. I don't have an issue with French Canadians, many of my friends are Quebecois. What I have an issue with is if they aren't able to speak even a minimal amount of English while we are expected to speak fluent French everywhere else in Canada.

I think you misconstrued this, this post has nothing to do with SW or Hush at all. I've received awful treatment from the Quebec health care system, been hung up on, and had medical professionals unable to effectively communicate
December 6, 2025 at 9:11 AM
I'm not sure what you mean by accepting their money, in what context? Why should Hush ban them? I'm confused... I'm mainly talking about medical professionals who don't speak English and will dismiss or not provide services to Anglophones
December 6, 2025 at 9:09 AM
I don't consider this rude, I'm asking genuinely because it doesn't make sense to me. Do they provide English classes the way we have French classes in school?
December 6, 2025 at 9:08 AM
LOL oh nooo 😂 my whole body goes stiff and I can only skate for like 10m before I'm sore, also lots of flailing. I used to be able to speed skate as a kid, but I didn't go for about 2 years and completely lost the ability 🥲 it's easier for kids since they're closer to the ground haha

I second that 😘
