For comfort, rereads are good, and also older books for younger readers - like, Anne of Green Gables. Or less old: Greenglass House was so comforting and lovely. And the World of the White Rat by T Kingfisher.

For distraction: sci-fi with big ideas.

We killed off a whole year's flu strain by people not spreading it about offices, public transport, etc etc. It should have stayed the norm.
