It can be easy to ignore the attacks on trans people.
We make up a small part of the population - some estimates are around .3% to 1% these days, but it's probably a little bit more. A lot of workers don't know any openly trans people. And a lot more have heard a lot of lies about us.
Those lies are conveniently the same lies they told about queer people for decades, claiming we're "grooming kids" or telling people we're "harming women" and on and on. None of it is true. Just like the lies they told about queer people, just like the lies they tell about immigrants, Black people, poor people, and every other scapegoat they can name, they're distractions from our real enemies.
It's not trans people hurting your kids or hurting women. It's billionaires who tried to destroy the Violence Against Women Act, who destroyed abortion rights, who want to end no-fault divorce, who want to keep women in the kitchen. It's billionaires who are trying to get rid of child labor laws, who built secret youth prisons, who put immigrant children in cages.

That's who the problem is. Billionaires - capitalists - are why prices are so high, wages are so low, healthcare is unaffordable, housing is unavailable, unemployment is rising, and every helpful program, from Medicaid to Social Security, is being dismantled right before our eyes.
And trans people are impacted by all of those things, too - trans women make 60 cents to the dollar an average worker makes. Around 45% of homeless youth are LGBTQ. Anywhere from 200,000 to 750,000 trans people are on Medicaid.
Recent attacks on trans people mean that our access to passports and even voting are under threat because our IDs might be invalidated.
They have passed laws in some places that allow adults to "inspect the genitals" of children. They have tried to pass laws to make it a felony to be trans in public. They are trying to take trans kids away from their parents. They're denying us healthcare, allowing people to legally discriminate against us, and using people's faith and fears against them.

All to distract workers from every other terrible thing they're doing.
They try to make trans people look like monsters while denying people health insurance, housing assistance, even food. These capitalists - Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and all their friends - are the monsters.
Their goal is to scapegoat trans people so that when you get rightfully outraged about how fucked up our lives are with all these cuts, you direct that outrage in the wrong direction.

The only way to answer that is to speak out against their lies. Our greatest weapon is the truth, and the truth is, we all share a common enemy in the super-rich capitalists. They know we can't beat them if we're hating each other, so they spend a lot of time and money trying to make sure that's who we hate. If we answer that with solidarity - if we trans people stand with workers against the attacks on them, and if cis workers stand with us against the attacks on us - the monsters raiding our social programs to enrich themselves will lose. We will win.

the first trans-specific protest i ever led was in 2018. maybe 100 people showed up, which was far more than i expected, and we shut down canal street in new orleans, and this photo was taken of me. i have never felt more empowered.

it took eight years or so, but i hit 5K on that review that first made anyone care about what i had to say. it used to be the most popular review on letterboxd for a very brief period, and it inspired a few people to crack their own eggs. and a few people to hate me. not bad for a complete nobody.

her family owns an oil company, and she's a huge cop supporter. she's not a republican, but she's a republican, you know? anyway, this is horrifying, and it's likely no one progressive will challenge her. because there are no progressive candidates here.
