It's about the small wins sometimes. After a long break from #Ecoseek to focus on hikes and gardening, I was able to launch a new version with the help of my daughter. All the Western states are supported now. The Midwest is next!

Some stars aligned and a donor provided us with a beautiful ceramic pot at the same time that another wonderful person donated rudebeckia, flax, and round leaf alumroot -- all right before a fundraiser for the native garden.

What a wonderful surprise! My daughter wanted to help with #Ecoseek so I suggested she help with some of the ecoregion descriptions. I was doing some quality control and found a nice message in one of the PDFs ❤️

Reminder to think of insect habitat while you put your garden to bed for the winter. I found weaving cut stalks in with the standing stubble prevents wind blowing it all away while giving a variety of habitat options for those beneficial insects.

And now we're sciencing!

Thanks to a generous donation, we can now collect baseline environmental data near the preserve.

We still have those bears trapezing through our natural area. We've counted 5 individuals this season.

We put up a gate! It represents the final piece of a boundary that protects our natural area from our regenerative land. We did this after an amazing visit from folks from @wadnr.bsky.social and Stevens County Conservation District where we had a total #nature geek out and ecoadventure.

Oh yeah, and we found a coralroot #orchid!

The #botany dork in me got to geek out at an oak woodland! I knew we had oaks in WA but wasn't sure where. I used #Ecoseek to find the ecoregion then used it to find a high quality natural area to explore. Total success!

Heck yeah--that's the ultimate plan. Livestock requires more infrastructure, time, and owning/borrowing the actual livestock though

That's wonderful! I love that we're all making these island habitats.

Oof, those are nasty! The weed seed bank is pretty bad here, and the bindweed will keep coming back until we get the last bit out, but those are small problems compared to what you have.

Big thanks to the Idaho Native Plant Society, and a very generous donor, for the $100+ worth of #NativePlants. After 15 hours of volunteer hours, we have the #PocketPrairie mostly weeded and the new plants in the ground.

Before and after photos below.

Birds use columns of warm and rising air to gain altitude through a spiraling flight pattern. It's one of the absolute wonders of nature and I can watch it for hours.

You all need to see this. My friend moved to New Zealand a while back and has been seeing the coolest stuff. If you need proof, skip to minute 24 in the below video. Or watch the whole thing and chill.

I'm glad you're enjoying it! I love oak and hickory forests--we don't get a lot of them in WA, unfortunately. I'm planning a trip this month to explore an oak savanna though!

Hey @themagikgarden.com , I just pushed a new version of Ecoseek that includes New Jersey and New York. Hope you enjoy!

As someone who was greatly influenced by Tom Brown Jr., I'm happy to have added the Pine Barrens to Ecoseek.

The new update added New Jersey, New York, and some QoL improvements.

Check it out: play.google.com/store/apps/d...

Second bear sighting in about a week. Maybe they (he/she?) do like our little nature preserve!

Had an amazing time on the #NativePlant hike at Kamiak Butte hosted by @phoenixconservancy.bsky.social and Palouse Conservation District. My boy got really good at identifying the wildflowers! A budding botanist!
